So this guy spent 20 years in the US BOMBING FORCE, the uniformed (blue, like the USPS) mercenary forces, and he thinks he has a bead on CAPITALISM? The term “debt slavery” describes the status of many Americans; they own so little, not their houses (assuming they can afford one), not their cars and trucks, in some cases not even their furniture.

America’s oligarchs and corporations are driven by profit margins, and workers’ jobs are being ruthlessly curtailed or eliminated in the process. AI is being pushed largely to make salaried employees redundant. Who needs people when machines can perform the same function, even if the machines are limited and only as reliable as their (faulty) programming?

A historic shift has gathered pace across Asia this summer.

Over the past several weeks, China has extended maritime patrols to cover Taiwan’s east coast, demonstrating its ability to encircle the island. It has intensified military, trade and diplomatic pressure on Japan and test-fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile that showcased its growing sea-based nuclear capability.

With an eye on China’s growing power, other countries have drawn closer, revealing the contours of an emerging new security architecture.

Japan has strengthened defense ties with Australia, the Philippines and India, and it is discussing closer cooperation with South Korea. Japan has also scrapped its longstanding restrictions on defense exports and is moving to join South Korea as a regional arms supplier, while Australia has signed new agreements with Pacific Island nations, including a mutual defense pact with Fiji.

Since President Trump’s return to office, uncertainty over his commitment to the defense of Asia has sparked warnings that Beijing could seize the opportunity to be more assertive, pushing U.S. allies to band together.

Yet this doesn’t have to mean we are entering an era of instability for an economically dynamic part of the world that remains vital to U.S. strategic interests. An order in which Asian countries assume greater responsibility for their own defense and rely more on one another — and less on an increasingly distracted United States — could ultimately prove stable and secure.

At any rate, it is unavoidable. An overextended United States is less prepared to underwrite Asia’s security indefinitely than it once was.

The war with Iran has exposed the limits of U.S. military power and prompted Washington to divert military assets from other parts of the world — including the Asia-Pacific region — and Mr. Trump has made clear that he wants U.S. allies to contribute more to their own defense. His administration has already announced significant reductions in the U.S. military presence and commitments in Europe. No comparable plans for Asia have emerged yet.

A transition to a more self-reliant Asia must be managed carefully.

If Beijing perceives a rapid weakening of American commitments or sees U.S. allies as newly vulnerable, it might conclude it has greater freedom to press its territorial and security ambitions, raising the specter of military confrontation.

Fear of that possibility, and of U.S. abandonment, could quicken the arms race already gripping East Asia. China has steadily built its armed forces and expanded its nuclear arsenal. Japan has recently begun deploying longer-range missiles, South Koreans are debating whether their country should develop its own nuclear weapons, and Australia is investing in nuclear-powered submarines and missile capabilities.

Alarming as those developments sound, history has shown that Asian countries with diverse interests and forms of government can build working partnerships without deep U.S. participation. The 11-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, founded in 1967, is often criticized as slow and indecisive in responding to shared challenges and has done little to counter China’s expansive territorial ambitions in the South China Sea. But ASEAN has helped to maintain peace among its members in a part of Asia previously torn by decades of war and provided a framework for Southeast Asia to engage with China.

A more balanced sharing of the security burden needn’t weaken deterrence. Deeper cooperation between countries such as Japan, the Philippines and Australia would actually strengthen the first line of defense against security threats, backed up by a gradually reduced — yet still robust — U.S. military presence.

As U.S. allies become more capable and integrated, it is only fair that they shoulder more of the costs of their own protection, freeing up thinly stretched American forces to meet global security challenges elsewhere. The United States, for its part, could continue to coordinate closely with its Asia-Pacific allies, take the lead on tasks central to U.S. interests, such as keeping vital sea lanes open, and work to maintain stable relations with China.

That kind of allied system would be stronger militarily, more durable over the long term than one that is overreliant on the United States and able to act collectively if American assistance is delayed or unavailable.

At any rate, the Middle East is proof that heavy American involvement is no guarantee that international rivalries won’t explode into conflict. The United States — along with Israel — started the war with Iran, exposing America’s partners in the Persian Gulf to Iranian attacks and disrupting global trade. As a result, some Gulf states are rethinking their reliance on Washington and exploring ways to maintain their security through partnerships among themselves, which may even include Iran.

The United States will remain a power in the Pacific. But the strategic balance has already shifted. American allies and rivals alike are wealthier and more capable than they were a generation ago, and U.S. forces are overstretched. Asia is adjusting to that new reality.

“Productive work” should not be confused with “socially-useful work”, while “unproductive work” should not be confused with “socially-useless work”. They have nothing whatsoever to do with these things. Incidentally, there are no equivalent terms in present-day bourgeois economics for productive and unproductive labour, as all workers are regarded as the same. However, they were extensively used by the great classical economists, such as Adam Smith and David Ricardo, to understand capitalism. People were regarded as productive or unproductive in the capitalist sense, which was the only way they could understand things. After all, the aim of capitalist production is the production of profit. Profit is the surplus value produced by the unpaid labour of the working class. Thus, according to the logic of the system, productive labour is that which creates surplus value.

“A man grows rich by employing a multitude of manufacturers; he grows poor, by maintaining a multitude of menial servant,” stated Adam Smith. The first would increase his profits, whereas the second would decrease his income. In the category of “unproductive” labour Adam Smith included a whole range of people, including domestic servants. This is hardly surprising given the large numbers of servants that existed at that time. The House of Commons report in April 1861 showed that there were more than one million domestic servants in Britain, an even greater number than factory workers. By the beginning of the 20th century, one in four workers was employed in domestic service. While these workers were undoubtedly exploited and forced to work long hours, they were deemed economically “unproductive” as they were paid wages from revenue and did not produce surplus value for the capitalist.

“What a convenient arrangement it is,” noted Marx, “that makes a factory girl to sweat twelve hours in a factory, so that the factory proprietor, with a part of her unpaid labour, can take into his personal service her sister as maid, her brother as groom and her cousin as soldier or policeman!” 12

Domestic servants were not the only people considered unproductive from the point of view of capitalism. As Adam Smith explained:

“The labour of some of the most respectable orders in society is, like that of menial servants, unproductive of any value… The sovereign, for example, with all the officers both of justice and war who serve under him, the whole army and navy, are unproductive labourers. They are the servants of the public, and are maintained by a part of the annual produce of the industry of other people… In the same class must be ranked… churchmen, lawyers, physicians, men of letters of all kinds; players, buffoons, musicians, opera-singers, opera-dancers, etc.”

Marxists use the terms “productive” and “unproductive” labour, but in a more precise manner than defined by Adam Smith. Once again, these terms are not moral judgments about the quality of a person’s job, but are definitions based upon whether or not workers produce surplus value for the capitalists. Clearly people such as doctors, nurses, and teachers are extremely “socially-useful” and essential, but nonetheless, from the point of view of capitalism, are regarded as unproductive workers. “Productive labour, in its meaning for capitalist production, is wage-labour which… produces surplus value for the capitalist… Only that wage-labour is productive which produces capital,” explained Marx. 13 In other words, these terms refer to what is productive for capital. Likewise, “unproductive” labour, in the capitalist sense, is therefore labour which produces no surplus value for the capitalist. As such, unproductive labour has become an ever-expanding mill-stone around the neck of capitalism which takes an ever-increasing slice of the surplus value produced by the rest of the productive economy.

Kroger recently agreed to buy regional chain Giant Eagle for $1.65 billion—a deal that would add nearly 197 supermarkets and 11 standalone pharmacies across Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Indiana to its footprint.

Currently, the Cincinnati-based company operates more than 2,700 stores across over a dozen banners, including Fred Meyer, Fry’s Food and Drug, Harris Teeter, Jay C, King Soopers, Mariano’s, Pick ‘n Save, QFC, and Ralphs. The closures are spread across several of the brands.

Kroger first announced the closures in June, noting that the move would deliver a “modest financial benefit” to the business. At the same time, the chain said it planned to increase store openings by 30 percent and break ground on 14 new stores.

The closures have drawn scrutiny beyond just the numbers. Some researchers have pointed to the broader risk of expanding “grocery desertsm” which are low-income areas where at least one-third of residents lack easy access to a supermarket. Such a phenomenon has continued as chains like Kroger consolidate their footprints.

In some cases, Kroger has said it plans to replace an older store with a newer one built nearby, suggesting the closures are as much about consolidating and modernizing its footprint as they are about cutting costs outright.

Kroger has not released an official list of which stores are closing or which banners are most affected. It told Fox26 that the decision is part of “a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business.”

Two members of British band Massive Attack have been barred from re-entering Singapore after displaying a Palestinian flag and expressing support for a political cause during the band’s concert on Wednesday (Jul 29).



The police and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) said on Friday that the pair were issued stern warnings for offences under the Foreign National Emblems (Control of Display) Act and the Public Order Act. Authorities also said the band will not be allowed to perform in Singapore again.

Police said it takes a “serious view of acts which could potentially harm the racial and religious harmony in Singapore” and urged “the public, including foreigners, to refrain from importing foreign politics”.

Malicious cyber activity affected technology at water systems in at least seven states this week, including Minnesota and Michigan, forcing some utilities to switch to manual operations as state and federal authorities dig into who is behind the attack, CBS News has learned.

Investigators are probing to determine whether the activity is the work of Iranian hackers, according to U.S. officials and sources familiar with the incident. Sources cautioned that since they had not definitively attributed the attack, their assessment could change as additional technical evidence is collected. They are also probing whether the actor could have attempted to appear Iran-based as a way of stirring the pot amid the ongoing U.S. conflict with Iran.

The FBI reported incidents in “at least seven states” but didn’t identify them. On Saturday, Michigan joined Minnesota in reporting cyberattacks on the state’s water systems but an official said all systems were operating “safely.”

Dale George, the director of communications at the state’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, told CBS News in a statement that the state received “a small number of reports from Michigan communities indicating activity consistent with what federal agencies described.”

“All systems continued to operate safely, issues were addressed by local operators, and there are no known impacts that posed a public health concern,” he added.

CBS News has learned more than 30 community water systems across Minnesota were affected. Minnesota and the federal government have not publicly attributed the activity to a particular actor.

Even as the investigation continues, President Trump said Friday he doesn’t think Iran is to blame. Instead, he pointed the finger at Minnesota and its Democratic governor, Tim Walz, who is no stranger to criticism from the president.

In 1982, Israel surrounded the Palestinian refugee camps in Beirut and allowed allied militias to enter. Over two days, they slaughtered thousands of civilians. Israel’s military watched, lit the night sky with flares, and facilitated the killers’ movement. No one was held accountable.

6. Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre

In 1994, an American‑Israeli settler walked into the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron during dawn prayers and opened fire, killing 29 worshippers and injuring more than 100. Israeli forces then killed additional Palestinians during protests. The mosque was later divided, punishing the victims instead of the perpetrator.

7. Killing of Iman al‑Hams

In 2004, Israeli soldiers shot a 13‑year‑old girl in Rafah, claiming she was “suspicious.” After she fell, an officer approached and fired multiple rounds into her body to “confirm the kill.” The military cleared him. Her schoolbooks were still in her backpack.

8. Operation Cast Lead / White Phosphorus

Pro-Zionist Far Right attacks Evo Morales

Morales, who is in hiding in Cochabamba, claims that the arrest warrant is an act of political persecution by the right-wing government of Rodrigo Paz.

On July 29, the Bolivian Public Prosecutor’s Office in Santa Cruz issued an arrest warrant against former leftist President Evo Morales (2006–2019). Authorities accuse Morales of having led the recent anti-government and anti-neoliberal protests that rocked Bolivia for more than 50 days.

The specific charges against the Indigenous former president are terrorism, endangering the safety of transportation systems, criminal conspiracy, public incitement to commit a crime, endangering the safety of public services, and armed insurrection against the state. The prosecution is seeking between 20 and 30 years in prison for the alleged crimes of terrorism and armed insurrection alone.

The prosecution claims that Morales is responsible for these actions allegedly because he participated in massive protests, during which demonstrators demanded the resignation of the newly-inaugurated president, right-wing Rodrigo Paz, for having introduced a neoliberal bill that allowed for the expropriation of land to settle debts (something that is prohibited in the country) among other things.

The complaint that led to the issuance of an arrest warrant was initially filed by Stello Cochamanidis Garces and by the Interior Minister Marco Oviedo Huerta, who joined the complaint sometime later. Thus, the warrant states: “[Morales] must come forward to explain what his role was during the 53 days (of road blockades), to explain why he made the statements he did, why he took responsibility, and why he said that he was the one who was practically in charge of the actions.”

Morales claims this is political persecution

For his part, on his X account, Morales rejected the arrest warrant: “Today the government issued a new arrest warrant against me, accusing me of alleged crimes of terrorism and armed insurrection. They seek to hold us responsible for the social protests to hide the true tragedy Bolivia is facing: a deep economic and social crisis, the result of a model that has abandoned the people and protects corruption. Our position has always been clear: we stand with those suffering from austerity measures, fuel shortages, the rising cost of living, insecurity, and the spread of drug trafficking.”

In addition, the former president said that neither he nor the Bolivians demanding change will be “intimidated”: “They won’t solve the problems they themselves have caused through legal proceedings and political persecution; they’re just trying to divert attention with a new headline … We will continue to fight alongside the people, as we have always done, with the conviction that Bolivia deserves a different path: one of dignity, sovereignty, social justice, and the restoration of hope for everyone.”
