The book of Joshua, written in the Persian or Hellenistic periods according to the “minimalists”, reflects the same conscious ambiguity. My French Catholic Bible (published by the Dominicans of the École Biblique de Jérusalem) adds a footnote to that passage, saying that Rahab’s “profession of faith to the God of Israel … made Rahab, in the eyes of more than one Church Father, a figure of the Gentile Church, saved by her faith.” I find this footnote, likening the Gentile Church to the prostitute of Jericho, emblematic of the true role of Christianity. For it is indeed the Church that, by acknowledging the god of Israel as the universal God, introduced the Jews into the heart of the Gentile city and, over the centuries, allowed them to seize power. — SOURCE

“We left under fire,” Mohammed Ayad, 48, who fled the Sanfoura area with his wife and six children, told TNA.

The expansion has deepened a sense of insecurity among residents who believed they were living at a relatively safe distance from the military zone.
Among those displaced was Abu Hamed Hamada, 55, who has now taken shelter in a school housing displaced families in western Gaza City.
“Since the war began, we’ve moved many times. Each time, we think we’ve found safety, but the occupation advances, and we’re forced to leave again […] Now, there’s almost nowhere left to go,” he told TNA.
“We were shocked by the speed of the expansion. We carried whatever we could and left on foot. Some elderly residents refused to leave because they have nowhere else to go,” he added.
According to local estimates, around 100 families were living in or near the area affected by the latest expansion. While many fled westwards into Gaza City, others have remained near the newly established line due to a lack of shelter, money or alternative accommodation.
Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defence, said residents have repeatedly found themselves waking up to shifting realities on the ground.
Esperanza Ghandour was the principal of the Youssef Salman Chamoun Public School in Nabatieh El Fawqa.

Former Israeli Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann said Saturday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s political weakness had enabled US President Donald Trump to lead both Netanyahu and Israel through an “unprecedented journey of humiliation,” Anadolu reports.
Turning to relations with Washington, Friedmann said Netanyahu’s political weakness had allowed Trump to guide both him and Israel through “an unprecedented journey of humiliation.”
He recalled that in September 2025, Israel carried out “a failed attempt” to assassinate senior Hamas officials who had traveled to Qatar for negotiations on a US-backed ceasefire and prisoner exchange proposal for Gaza.
According to Friedmann, Trump subsequently “demanded that Netanyahu apologize to the Qatari leader and pledge that Israel would not carry out attacks on Qatari territory.”
He said Netanyahu’s apology was delivered in a phone call from the White House and later reported globally.
Iran framework agreement and regional constraints
Friedmann also criticized a US framework agreement with Iran, saying it imposed limits on Israel’s actions, “or more precisely, its inaction,” against Hezbollah while disregarding Israel’s position.
He argued that Trump was eager to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to restore global energy flows.
“To achieve that, he was prepared to pay not only with American dollars, but also with Israel’s interests,” he wrote.
“In this way, we became a tradable commodity in an international struggle over which we have no influence.”
He added: “Since World War II, there has not been such an attempt to trade Jews and make deals at their expense.”

1,000 Gaza children disabled by Israel’s 2014 onslaught….More than 1,000 Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip sustained permanent disabilities during last year’s 51-day Israeli military onslaught, according to Defense for Children International (DCI), an NGO devoted to children’s rights.
In a report entitled “Operation Protective Edge: A war waged on Gaza’s Children”, released on Tuesday, DCI’s Palestine unit said last year’s Israeli offensive had led to the injury of more than 11,000 Palestinians, including 1,000 permanently disabled by the violence.
For children living in the Gaza Strip, 2014 was a year that brought violence, fear, and loss. The Israeli military offensive that lasted 50 days between July 8 and August 26, dubbed Operation Protective Edge, killed 547 Palestinian children, 535 of them as a direct result of Israeli attacks. Another 3,374 children suffered injuries in attacks, including over 1,000 children whose wounds rendered them permanently disabled.
In total, Operation Protective Edge claimed the lives of 2,220 Palestinians, including at least 1,492 civilians. Five Israeli civilians, including one child, and 67 Israeli soldiers also lost their lives. Investigations undertaken by Defense for Children International Palestine (DCIP) into Palestinian child fatalities during Operation Protective Edge found overwhelming and repeated evidence of international humanitarian law violations committed by Israeli forces. These included direct attacks on children and indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks on civilian homes, schools, and residential neighborhoods.

This Article therefore examines whether a President has the power to order or authorize the military to violate international humanitarian law, known as the “law of war.” Rather than assess whether the law of war generally constrains a President as Commander-in-Chief, however, its focus is the extent to which Congress requires the U.S. military to comply with the law of war in its disciplinary code, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). It clarifies how Article 18 of the UCMJ empowers military criminal courts, known as courts-martial, to try and punish not only conduct denominated a “war crime” by international law but also any other conduct for which the law of war permits punishment by military tribunal. Punishable conduct under Article 18 includes any law of war violation that entails or results in a criminal offense under the UCMJ. Put differently, this Article clarifies why reasonable compliance with the law of war is necessary to justify war measures that are otherwise common crimes such as murder, maiming, and assault, that are defined and made punishable by the UCMJ. This Article then explains why this execution of the law of war in the UCMJ limits a President’s authority as Commander-in-Chief: a President does not possess constitutional power to override congressional regulation of the military, particularly in matters of military discipline. So long as the law of war component of Article 18 remains unchanged, no President may order or authorize war crimes or most other law of war violations that entail or result in a UCMJ offense.
