The very first story on the Drudge Report on both April 23 and 24 was headlined with a quote from Bernard Arnault saying if the Iran war was not quickly settled, it could be a “world catastrophe.”
I apparently do not keep up with world business as much as I should, because I did not know that Arnault is one of the three richest men in the world, along with Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. They trade first, second and third depending on fluctuating stock prices.
Arnault heads a French conglomerate, LVMH, which specializes in luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and many others. He bought a struggling Christian Dior in 1984 for $15 million and Tiffany & Co. in 2021 for over $15 billion.
Arnault told the annual meeting of his Company: “Either it (the Iran War) will be a world catastrophe with very serious and very negative economic impacts – in which case, who can say how 2026 will unfold – or it will be resolved more rapidly in some shape or form that we all hope for – even if it doesn’t seem easy – in which case businesses will recover and resume their normal course.”
Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House, almost always tries to speak in a positive way about Republican chances in elections. But he told the New York Times on April 28 that if the elections were in May, Republicans would lose.

Jeffrey Sachs is another foreign policy expert and economist who has been called upon for advice for many countries around the world. He is a longtime professor at Columbia University in New York City.
He has in the past described Netanyahu as “the main cheerleader for the war in Iraq.” He said on Judge Napolitano’s podcast on April 27 that the Israeli leader is “trying to achieve the unachievable” and that it is impossible for “the United States and Israel to run Iran.”
He said Netanyahu has” conned Trump into endless wars on behalf of Israel” and that if they continue this war, “they will destroy the U.S. economy.” He added that Netanyahu “wants the U.S. to spend not just the hundreds of billions we will spend,” but the seven trillion we have spent over the last 30 years in seven wars for Israel.

The Israeli military-industrial complex contributes to political repression and militarization across the Americas. The role of security theology, however, helps explain both Bukele’s support for Israel and the rise of his populist authoritarian project in El Salvador. Christian Zionismas it intersects with U.S. empire and colonial frameworkslegitimates both his domestic security and foreign policy. A deeper understanding of the ideological underpinnings of Bukele’s government and its symbolic relationship with Israel can further strengthen the basis for solidarity between Salvadorans and Palestinians. This security theology poses a threat to the life and autonomy of both Latin Americans and Palestinians; in turn, continuing to highlight the connections between Salvadoran and Palestinian struggles serves to strengthen both.

The nation’s police institutions were networked with military and surveillance agencies. These armed agents of state became fearsome threats to its citizens and brutal actors, especially after the 1954 CIA orchestrated coup against Guatemala’s last democratically-elected government.
The worst of the massacres in Maya villages were part of large military “sweeps” through Guatemala’s northern and western highlands. U.S. Colonel George Maynes told journalist Allan Nairn that he had worked with Guatemalan General Benedicto Lucas Garcia to develop this sweep tactic. During the presidency of Pentecostal general Efraín Ríos Montt, this sweep tactic was developed in March 1982 into a systematic strategy against the Maya who were seen as the major “internal enemy” to the Guatemalan state. Nairn also reports that U.S. Green Beret, Captain Jesse Garcia was even more specific about how he “was training Guatemalan troops in the technique of how to ‘destroy towns’.” Maya indigenous suffered over 625 massacres and also, by the government’s own admission, the near total destruction of more than 600 villages in Guatemala’s rural highlands. 100,000 fled to Mexico, over a million displaced within Guatemala.
It was not just the Maya indigenous who suffered such atrocity. Urban, non-indigenous dissidents or suspects were also rounded up and often interrogated, tortured, disappeared. Over a million pages of reports from Guatemalan police archivesyes, over a million pages now retrievedconfirm this. Overall, more than 200,000 people were killed or disappeared in this war in Guatemala between 1960 and 1996.
In a later visit with seminary students in 1988 and accompanied by my family and my two young children, I visited the forensics unit of Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo (Mutual Support Group) in a small building in Guatemala City run by the country’s las madres de los desaparecidos (“mothers of the disappeared”). The next morning, we saw in the newspapers that the building had been firebombed by police forces. Families looking for their disappeared loved ones (and doing so with the support of international delegations of which I was a part), all seeking forensic information that might expose those culpable for the disappearedthis was a crime in Guatemala in these years. The pervasiveness of violence in Guatemala, and the U.S. role in sustaining it, was dramatically marked for me by this encounter.

Slezkine remarks that, in Marxism as in Judaism, true knowledge was to be found in sacred texts, and ‘consciousness’ depended, in part, on one’s “ability to reconcile their many prescriptions, predictions and prohibitions”. [14] And Schatz emphasises: “The texts of the classics were regarded with utmost veneration, as the highest authority in which all the questions that could possibly be asked were answered. The practical difficulty was to find the most suitable fragment of the texts and to interpret it correctly, so that the hidden answer would appear. In discussing such texts, as well as debating social or political questions, there was the characteristic hair-splitting quality of analysis that many respondents themselves today call ‘Talmudic’”. Not only was the dry and rigid style of Marxism similar to the Jewish religious approach, but the content also overlapped in certain ways, such as with its promise of what Slezkine calls “a redemption that was both specific and universal”. [16] He adds: “Proletarian free will and historical predestination (liberty and necessity) will merge in the act of apocalyptic revolt against History in order to produce communism, a state in which there is no alienation of labor and thus no ‘contradictions’, no injustice and no Time. This is collective salvation, in that the reconciliation with the world is achieved by the whole of humanity on Judgement day”. [17]
The connections between Jewishness and communism can be shown to be strong in many different countries. Istvan Déak writes: “The left-wing intellectuals did not simply ‘happen to be mostly Jews’ as some pious historiography would have us believe, but Jews created the left-wing intellectual movement in Germany’”. [18] And Slezkine adds: “Between the wars, Jews remained prominent in the Weimar Republic’s Social Democratic Party, especially as journalists, theorists, teachers, propagandists and parliamentarians. Indeed, most professional socialist intellectuals in Germany and Austria were of Jewish descent”. [19]
“In the United States in the same period, Jews (most of them immigrants from Eastern Europe) accounted for about 40 to 50 percent of Communist Party membership and at least a comparable proportion of the Party’s leaders, journalists, theorists, and organizers”. [20] “In Poland, ‘ethnic’ Jews composed the majority of the original Communist leadership”. In the 1930s, they made up only 22-26% of the party membership but most of the members of the Central Committee. [21]
Slezkine reports that “the Jews had a much higher proportion of elite members than any other ethnic group in the USSR” [42] and provides plenty of evidence to back this up. He notes that Lenin’s bodyguard and embalmer were both Jewish; [43] names the Jewish leaders of the secret police running the building of the White Sea Canal in 1931-34 with Gulag slave labour; [44] and says that Jews constituted the single largest group within the “leading cadres” of the secret police in general. [45]
“The Gulag, or Main Labor Camp Administration, was headed by ethnic Jews from 1930, when it was formed, until late November 1938, when the Great Terror was mostly over”. [46] Jews formed “the backbone of the new Soviet bureaucracy”, [47] he says, and also dominated professions such as dentistry and pharmacy, while being severely overrepresented in the law, journalism, medicine, science and academia.
They were presumably also severely underrepresented in the grim factories that converted Russian lives into vast profits for the global industrial mafia!
Slezkine states: “It was at the very top of the Moscow and Leningrad elite that the Jewish presence was particularly strong and – by definition – visible”. [48] He also describes how Lenin’s New Economic Policy (NEP) in 1921 “created enough opportunities for entrepreneurial creativity to lure some émigré businessmen back to Russia”. [49] He reveals that, although Jews formed only 6.5 percent of the city’s population, “in 1924 in Moscow, Jewish ‘Nepmen’ owned 75.4 percent of all drugstores, 54.6 percent of all fabric stores, 48.6 percent of all jewelry stores, 39.4 percent of all dry goods stores, 36 percent of all lumber warehouses, 26.3 percent of all shoe stores, 19.4 percent of all furniture stores, 17.7 percent of all tobacco shops, and 14.5 percent of all clothing stores. The new ‘Soviet bourgeoisie’ was Jewish to a very considerable extent”. [50]

Mikhail Bakunin (1814–1876) was not Jewish; he was a Russian revolutionary and a founder of anarchism who held strong views pointing out Jews’ undo influence.
