Kevin McKernan’s analysis and sequencing the DNA from Pfizer and Moderna vials has revealed “contamination” (IMO intentional) of vials with very large quantities of DNA plasmids, a circular DNA code that encodes the desired RNA molecule. The DNA plasmids are used to grow DNA in vats of e.coli cells, because these bacterial cells pick up the plasmids and replicate rapidly. The DNA is then harvested by killing e.coli with antibiotics, “cutting” plasmids into strands, and purifying DNA. For this reason plasmids also contain genes for antibiotic resistance so that the DNA matrix survives the antibiotic wash. When DNA manufacturing was done on nano- or microgram scale this wasn’t a huge concern, but when DNA is manufactured in kilograms – let’s not be surprised that various raging infections resistant to antibiotics are on the rise, and migrating through the ecosystem, into water, soil, animals, etc. That horror aside, after the DNA purification step the e.coli and any remaining plasmids are supposed to be removed from the product. After the mRNA is produced by a chemical reaction from the DNA matrix, again, it must be purified and any untranslated residual DNA removed. Clearly, this does not happen in covid injections manufacturing.

Besides being extremely problematic due to large quantities of DNA found in the vials, the most alarming finding was the SV40 promoter in the DNA plasmid sequence. This part was not disclosed by Pfizer to the regulators. Therefore, they encoded a “stealth gene” in the sequence! This falls squarely into Air Force’s (JASON group) definition of a biological weapon: BW’s.

A recent study by Italian researchers have demonstrated beyond any doubt that approximately 50% of vaccinated individuals produce spike protein continuously when measured at 6 months after the last injection.

Igor Chudov wrote a very good explainer on this. The Italian team also states that this is likely because of
1) some human cells get transfected and the modified RNA is reverse transcribed into genomes of those cells or
2) microbial cells in the blood pick up the foreign material (it can be RNA or plasmids or both) and also become spike spewing factories. Or both things happen in various places in the body. This does not happen in unvaccinated people whether or not they are positive for covid by PCR, so that’s definitely not whatever is called “covid infection”.

CNN confronts Fauci — Tom Woods

Just the other day Anthony Fauci was subjected to a pretty convincing takedown of the usefulness of masks — on of all places CNN.

Host Michael Smerconish may be right of center, but all the same this is not where Fauci expected to be confronted.

With masking making a modest return and rumors of more to come, the subject came up between the two men. Here’s how it went:

Smerconish: The data concludes that they didn’t work in the first go round. Respond to that on masks.

Fauci: Yeah, well, that’s not so. I mean, when you’re talking about at the population level, then the data are less strong than knowing that if you look on the situation as an individual protecting themselves or protecting them from spreading it, there’s no doubt that masks work. Different studies give different percentages of advantage of wearing it. But there’s no doubt that the weight of the studies, and there have been many studies, indicate the benefit of wearing masks.

Smerconish: I’m going to refer to one of them. You’ve heard about it before. I heard about it from a number of radio callers.

The most rigorous and comprehensive analysis of scientific studies conducted on the efficacy of masks for reducing the spread of respiratory illness — including Covid-19 — was published last month. Its conclusions, said Tom Jefferson, the Oxford epidemiologist who is the lead author, were unambiguous.

“There is just no evidence that they” — masks — “make any difference,” he told journalist Maryanne Demasi. “Full stop.”

But wait, hold on. What about the N95 masks as opposed to the lower quality surgical or cloth masks?

“Makes no difference — none of it,” he said.

What about the studies that initially persuaded policymakers to impose mask mandates?

“They were convinced by nonrandomized studies, flawed observational studies.”

[Now back to Smerconish.] How do we get beyond that finding of that particular review?

Fauci: Yeah, but there are other studies, Michael, that show at an individual level, when you’re talking about the effect on the epidemic or the pandemic as a whole, the data are less strong. But when you talk about as an individual basis of someone protecting themselves or protecting themselves from spreading it to others, there’s no doubt that there are many studies that show that there is an advantage. When you look at the broad population level, like the Cochrane study, the data are less firm with regard to the effect on the overall pandemic. But we’re not talking about that. We’re talking about an individual’s effect on their own safety. That’s a bit different than the broad population level.

Fauci’s answer is embarrassing nonsense.

He cannot deny that the Cochrane study has completely blown up the claim that masks accomplish anything, so he’s now reduced to saying that while they may not be so effective on the population level, they are still effective on an individual level.

This is not sustainable. The study showed masks have no effect. Zero. If they have no effect, then they likewise have no effect “on an individual level,” whatever that is supposed to mean.

I had wondered how Fauci would respond to that Cochrane study. Now we know. He thinks masks work on an individual level, but that when you add up all these good effects it has for individuals, it doesn’t accumulate to much for the population as a whole. Try to make sense of that!

HUMANITY — Proving that change is possible if the will to create it is present, Chinese megacities like Beijing that were once famous for their apocalyptic grey skies are enjoying the lowest levels of air pollution they’ve experienced in the 21st century.

Falling 42% from an average high in 2013 when Chinese air pollution was higher than 50 particles per cubic centimeters of city air, the change has increased the lifespan of Chinese urbanites by 2.2 years.

The news comes from a report published by the University of Chicago called the Air Quality Life Index which listed some of the actions taken by the Chinese government to reduce air pollution, described by the CCP as a “war on pollution.”

This has included reducing the presence of heavy industry like steel production in city centers, as well as restricting coal power plants from being built inside cities while shuttering those that were already there.

Some cities like Beijing have reduced the number of cars allowed on the roads during peak hours, similar to London’s congestion charge. Lastly, China’s mass urban tree-planting campaigns have been well documented.

While the life expectancy has risen on average 2.2 years, some cities have seen far more drastic increases. Citizens living under the new “Beijing Blue,” are predicted to live 4 additional years, while those 11 million in the north-central city of Baoding are predicted to gain 6.

Israel officially asks US to send over 25 more F-35 fighter jets

The Defense Ministry has submitted an official letter of request to the US military’s F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office, to advance Israel’s procurement of a third F-35I squadron.

The additional 25 aircraft, to be delivered in batches of three beginning in 2027, would bring the Israeli Air Force’s F-35I fleet to 75.

The deal is estimated at $3 billion, financed by US military aid to Israel.

But Central City Concern CEO Andrew Mendenhall also believes that it may be time for Portland to restore some penalties for public drug use.

“We feel that the balance between public safety and individual accountability has been out of balance,” Mendenhall told OPB in June. “And we know the goal here is to bring the community back into better balance.”

Mendenhall said he would support a ban if it came with clear court diversion options for people arrested, like the ability to lessen charges if someone agrees to participate in a treatment program.

Some of the places of richest marine productivity in the world occur off the coast of Antarctica, and being able to better predict exfiltration and melt could help marine biologists better understand where marine productivity is occurring, and how it might change in the future.

A Valkyrie is a figure in Norse mythology depicted as a warrior woman on horseback, a wolf or boar, and armed with a spear, who decides the fate of warriors in battle and carries the dead to Odin’s Valhalla. Valkyrie means “chooser of the slain”, and those chosen will fight beside Odin at Ragnarök.

Valhalla is Odin’s Hall of Heroes where the spirits of fallen warriors battle each other all day, return to life and health at evening, and spend the night drinking. It was one of five possible afterlife destinations in Norse belief, the others being:

• The Realm of Ran
• The Burial Mound

The goddess Freyja presided over Fólkvangr and chose half the dead on the battlefield for her realm; Valkyries chose the other half for Odin. The NYPD’s announcement to deploy drones as uninvited guests at private backyard gatherings this weekend continues to ignite a heated debate over personal freedom and privacy, a treacherous line that government authorities seem keen to cross as much as possible.

Responding to complaints about large gatherings over the upcoming Labor Day celebrations, Assistant NYPD Commissioner Kaz Daughtry stated drones will come into play if “a large crowd, a large party in a backyard” gets reported.

ADL Calls on Biden and Harris To Create Directive To Tackle Online “Hate” Through Public-Private Partnership

A high-profile meeting was convened at the White House this week with civil rights leaders and members of the King family.

The Anti-Defamation League, supported by well-known civil rights advocates, urged President Biden and VP Harris to create a robust plan targeting online hate, antisemitism, and extremism.

The phrase “lethal threat of hate-motivated violence” was highlighted as a crisis needing immediate attention. While the issue of violent hate crimes cannot be minimized, the rush to enact potentially restrictive measures regarding online speech opens a Pandora’s Box of censorship and surveillance that could, paradoxically, undermine the very freedoms civil rights leaders have fought to establish.

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt drew a connection between the recent racist shooting in Jacksonville and the landmark civil rights March on Washington, pointing out society’s enduring vulnerabilities. While few question the gravity of violence, the implication that widespread societal censorship and government oversight could serve as viable solutions invites concerns over constitutional rights, something groups such as the ADL appear to ignore when constantly pushing for online censorship.

Among the alarming suggestions was the appointment of a high-ranking “czar” focused solely on combating domestic extremism and hatred.

This hints at a centralized power structure that might marginalize dissenting views under the umbrella term of “extremism,” a term which history shows can be distressingly malleable in the hands of those in power.

Similarly, the recommendation for a Presidential Study Directive to assess current mechanisms for countering online hate raises critical questions. The notion that public and private entities could collaborate to scrutinize and regulate online behavior smacks of an Orwellian future where Big Brother monitors thoughts and expression.

The call to revive “United We Stand” summits and implement Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) measures within federal agencies, further signals the government’s intent to institutionalize its vision of social harmony, perhaps at the cost of free dialogue and individual liberties.

In attendance were leaders from various civil rights organizations, including the National Urban League, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, and UnidosUS. While their presence ostensibly ensured a comprehensive discussion, one must question whether the gathering fully considered the potential downsides of broad administrative action, including the chilling effects on free speech and expression.

Born into poverty in what is today Ukraine, in 1898, she emigrated to the US as a child with her family and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she completed her education and eventually became a teacher.

In 1921, after marrying, she and her husband immigrated to Palestine, then under British mandate. From then on, her political trajectory took flight and by 1948, when the state of Israel was established after the British mandate expired, she had already cemented her place in Israeli history.

Prior to her assuming the most powerful job, Meir, a socialist Zionist, cut her teeth as a cabinet minister, not least as minister for labour and then as foreign minister.

The Deir Yassin massacre was the first of a number of incidents in which Jewish fighters were involved in killing civilians in the War of Independence and after it was over. Another infamous incident was the one at Kafr Qasem in 1956, on the day the fighting in the Sinai Campaign began. Forty-eight Israeli Arab citizens were killed by Border Police gunfire. As in the case of Deir Yassin, the state is still censoring the archival materials from Kafr Qasem.

Nathan Alterman continued to publish Ha-tur Ha-shvi’ee (The Seventh Column),
his journalistic poetry column in the newspaper Davar that had been pub-
lished regularly since 1943. During those years, Alterman gained his status as the
national poet of the Yeshuv (the Jewish population in Palestine). By that point,
he had already published three acclaimed books: Kochavim Ba-Huts (1938),
Simhat ’Aniyim (1941), and Shirei Makot Mitsrayim (1944) which, together with
Ha-tur Ha-shvi’ee (1948), the book in which he included a selection of The Sev-
enth Column’s poems, had turned him into the leading and most central voice of
the contemporary Hebrew poetry. The journalistic poetry that constitutes The
Seventh Column closely followed the life and events of the Yeshuv in Palestine
and developed a hegemonic position towards them, specifically from the point
of view of Mapai—the party which dominated the Yeshuv’s establishments
and the Zionist Organization.

His hegemonic position can best be understood in Anotonio Gramsci’s use of the term, who described hegemony as a dominant discourse which creates and becomes a product of balanced consensus between dominator and dominated, ruler and ruled:

In November 1948, with the War of Independence (sic) still raging, the poet Natan Alterman published a poem called “For This, Al Zot.” The poem makes reference to an incident in which Israeli soldiers committed act of violence. Given the timing, it might have been the killing of non-combatants including Arab men, women and children in the city of Lod or what was described as a “slaughter” in another Arab village.

Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, busy at the time with the conduct of the war, was so moved by the poem that he asked Alterman to reprint one hundred thousand copies to distribute to every soldier in Israel. So what’s in the poem? Here it is:

Across the vanquished city in a jeep he did speed – A lad bold and armed, a young lion of a lad! And an old man and a woman on that very street Cowered against a wall, in fear of him clad. WS: What evidence may there be in your mind that certain protest groups like Antifa, BLM and Extinction Rebellion are state operations and in a sense ‘storm troopers for the establishment’?

Paul Cudenec: The evidence is not in my mind, but very real! I have researched and written a number of articles exposing their connections to what I have taken to calling the criminocracy – the self-concealing web of foundations, charities, investment funds and national and international institutions that controls much of our social structure. Although activists in these groups are no doubt genuinely motivated by the advertised principles, these movements are definitely being manipulated for an overall agenda tied closely to transhumanism, impact capitalism and digital public-private global totalitarianism. Not only do these controlled groups replace genuine movements and steer activists into directions favoured by the system, but they are also used to attack genuine dissidents, in a false-flag fashion, deploying the self-righteous fury of woke ideology to impose conformity to corporate-friendly attitudes.

“I still call myself a failed communist,” says Pete Seeger, preparing the club’s stage for a late afternoon sing-song. And it’s true that his most famous compositions, Where Have All the Flowers Gone? (adapted from an old Russian song about Cossacks going off to war) and Turn, Turn, Turn (a big hit for the Byrds) don’t sound as revolutionary as they did.

Seeger’s banjo once sported the message: “This machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender” (an echo of the message on Woody Guthrie’s guitar: “This machine kills fascists”). The anti-fascist, union anthems he sang with Guthrie and later with his own band, the Weavers, placed him at the forefront of the action. He was targeted as a communist sympathiser in the 1950s (he was called before the McCarthy hearings after being warned that If I Had a Hammer would go down badly with the authorities, found guilty of contempt of Congress and sentenced to a year in prison). During the civil rights movement of the 1960s, he led a crowd, with Martin Luther King, in a rendition of We Shall Overcome.

Guthrie, Seeger says, taught him how to busk. “He’d say put the banjo on your back, go into a bar and buy a nickel beer and sip it as slow as you can. Sooner or later, someone will say, ‘Kid, can you play that thing?’ Don’t be too eager, just say, ‘Maybe, a little.’ Keep on sipping beer. Sooner or later, someone will say, ‘Kid, I’ve got a quarter for you if you pick us a tune.’ Then you play your best song.” With that advice, Seeger supported himself on his travels.

WS: Please could you introduce yourself and say how you came to be a writer and create the website Winter Oak?

Paul Cudenec: I am a former professional journalist, who slogged away for 25 years on a local newspaper in Sussex, and have also been an active anarchist since the mid 1990s. Ten years ago I took voluntary redundancy to concentrate on my own writing, then moved to rural France. I initially created Winter Oak as a vehicle for publishing my books but over the years the site has increasingly become the focus of my writing activity, in particular my exposures of the global power nexus, which were lent new urgency by the Covid moment.

WS: How would you define ‘anarchism’? Is it left wing or right wing or beyond both paradigms?

MA: How difficult was it for unvaccinated people in France during the vaccine mandates? How much non-compliance generally do you think there was in France to lockdowns and getting the jab?

PC: Well, we could still go into shops, apart from certain huge hypermarkets that I don’t frequent anyway. But you couldn’t drink a coffee in a café.

I once stopped off in driving snow in the mountains, waited at the bar to be served, unmasked, for ten minutes in a café full of people, only to be told that without the vaccine passport I could only buy a take-away. So I had to down my espresso outside in the snowstorm!

A couple of decent restaurants agreed to feed me and a friend, as we travelled across France in the summer of 2021, if we didn’t stay too long, while stressing that they could go to prison for doing so! Generally levels of compliance were depressing, but I think that maybe non-compliance was largely hidden from view. People did keep holding family gatherings and so on. I have also heard about fake vaccine records. One encouraging lockdown phenomenon was flash mobs, where people popped up all over the place, outside government buildings and in railway stations, dancing to a beautiful and defiant song by HK et Les Saltimbanks. There were no major pro-freedom protests here until vaccine passports were introduced and then it really took off, to my delight!

Conformity:

This is my response [ Rosemary Mason] to an anonymous letter from Public Health England (Enquiries@PHE). The un-named individual was replying on behalf of the four Chief Medical Officers and two ‘top doctors’ from Public Health England.

Cornfields, however, are not like national parks or virgin forests. Corn farmers champion corn. Anything that might eat corn, hurt corn, bother corn, is killed. Their corn is bred/genetically engineered/Franken-Cropped to fight pests. The ground is sprayed. The stalks are sprayed again. And sprayed again, too. So, like David, Craig wondered, “What will I find?”

The answer amazed me. He found almost nothing. “I listened and heard nothing, no bird, no click of insect.”

There were no bees. The air, the ground, seemed vacant. He found one ant “so small you couldn’t pin it to a specimen board.” A little later, crawling to a different row, he found one mushroom, “the size of an apple seed.” (A relative of the one pictured below.) Then, later, a cobweb spider eating a crane fly (only one). A single red mite “the size of a dust mote hurrying across the barren earth,” some grasshoppers, and that’s it. Though he crawled and crawled, he found nothing else.

“It felt like another planet entirely,” he said, a world denuded.

100 years ago, these same fields, these prairies, were home to 300 species of plants, 60 mammals, 300 birds, hundreds and hundreds of insects. This soil was the richest, the loamiest in the state. And now, in these patches, there is almost literally nothing but one kind of living thing. We’ve erased everything else.

Here’s a cube placed 100 feet off the ground, in the upper branches of a Strangler fig tree in Costa Rica. We’re up in the air here, looking down into a valley. What’s up? More than 150 different plants and animals live in or passed through that one square foot of tree: birds, beetles, flies, moths, bugs, bugs, then more bugs…

That cube was put there by David Liittschwager, a portrait photographer, who spent a few years traveling the world, dropping one-cubic-foot metal frames into gardens, streams, parks, forests, oceans, and then photographing whatever, or whoever came through. Beetles, crickets, fish, spiders, worms, birds — anything big enough to be seen by the naked eye he tried to capture and photograph. Here’s what he found after 24 hours in his Cape Town cube:

David Liittschwager’s book, called A World In One Cubic Foot is a photographic collection of all the plants and animals that turned up in his various cubes, as you see in my post. But the book takes you to many more places, coral reefs, streams, rivers, backyards. Craig Childs’ account of his long weekend in the cornfield comes from his book, Apocalyptic Planet; Field Guide to the Everending Earth. Craig writes like a dream; he uses the cornfield as a metaphor for what a mass extinction might be like, where the Earth becomes “lots of one thing and not much of any other.”

But the real problem is going to be the relationship between the BRICS and the West. How can they create a new international order that we’ve been discussing while they have to pay all of the neocolonial burden of their foreign dollar debt and the foreign ownership of their oil and mining rights and public utilities?

How can they enforce climate cleanup costs on foreign oil and mining pollution? The current international law says that the companies have a right to sue any government for a new tax on multinational firms or new regulations.

And so it means the government has to pay all of the cleanup costs, all of the external diseconomies. And essentially, they’re put into an even worse locked-in position today than they were in the colonial period.

So how can they defend themselves from this kind of US-sponsored order and the regime change for countries that try to create an alternative to it? All that’s going to have to wait for the future BRICS meetings.

And we really can’t even begin to discuss that now. We’ve discussed what we thought in earlier episodes of this.

RADHIKA DESAI: Absolutely, Michael. I mean, the kinds of problems you’re talking about, I mean, the BRICS agenda is really a very, very big and tall one. So all we can expect at the moment is that the BRICS have only made a beginning, but a beginning they definitely have made.

Like you say, you’re talking about the international monetary system and the financial arrangements. And the fact of the matter is that, again, the Western press was sort of brimming with stories about how difficult, if not impossible, it would be for the BRICS to do anything that would dent the position of the dollar.

This is what the migrants sang in the 1930s, when the Golden State was anything but welcoming to the “tired and poor” masses heading this way from Dust Bowl-ravaged states.

For a few months in 1936, the Los Angeles Police Department launched a foreign excursion of sorts — a “Bum Blockade” on the state’s borders. The LAPD deployed 136 officers to 16 major points of entry on the Arizona, Nevada and Oregon lines, with orders to turn back migrants with “no visible means of support.”

The man responsible, Police Chief James Edgar “Two-Gun” Davis, was a former cotton-picker from Texas who came to California in 1911, dirt poor and uneducated. Davis, whose moniker referred to his extraordinary marksmanship with a pistol, liked to say that constitutional rights were of “no benefit to anybody but crooks and criminals.” (source)

Ellen Osterbauer of Downey was only 3 in 1931 when her family lived for five months in a Hooverville near Firestone Boulevard and Alameda Street. The five-acre site had neither toilets nor electricity, but was one of Los Angeles’ largest homeless camps, with 700 residents.

“We were the only ones who lived in a wooden house that my father built out of used doors,” she said. “Everyone else lived in cardboard and tar-paper houses, old trucks, buses and tents.”

Their dwelling was called “the hospital,” not because they treated the ill but because one of the doors bore that word.

“For years we were so embarrassed [about living in the camp that] we never talked about it outside the family,” Osterbauer recalled in a recent interview.

This economy, man, it is on a quick sucking sound down the drain. HOUSING. And the cost of living, from gasoline to milk, eggs to cabbage, electric bills to cell phone costs, and on and on, go ahead, do it yourself, the price check at Home Depot or Shermin Williams or Safeway or Big Five, go ahead, order a transformer for a city block, go ahead, hire on a plumber or roofer.

Prices have DOUBLED, man, TRIPLED, and as more people are forced out of work, since they can’t be living in the towns and cities where the work’s hard to find, then, we are here where towns and cities are offering $15,000 relocation checks for simple mid-level city jobs, or nursing jobs, or MD jobs.

The migration is one that starts in the wormy head, the brain drained of so much since the world is so battered by the mean as cuss wimpy, suited, silly-hair-do neo-liberals, and neo-cons and the others on those two margins, which is the middle ground of established usury capitalism.

PayDay Capitalism:

Payday loan companies market themselves to the working poor as a quick source of money in desperate situations. They then trap people in a cycle of indebtedness that compounds at breakneck speed. Tyson Foods, one of the world’s largest meat and poultry producers, dumps more toxic pollution into the nation’s waters than any other agribusiness, and produces the most animal manure of five major companies assessed nationwide, a new report said today.

Look, I was talking to some folk in Waldport about the aerial spraying of clear cuts. Near their homes, their water, their backyards. Yep, it is a big deal for them, but the bottom line is that they just DO NOT GET IT.

A judge in Lincoln County has overturned a ban on aerial pesticide spraying.

In 2017, voters in Lincoln County narrowly approved an initiative to ban the spraying of pesticides from the air. Now, more than two years after a lawsuit was filed by opponents, Circuit Court Judge Sheryl Bachart in Newport has ruled that state law pre-empts local efforts to regulate pesticides.

Oregon’s Pesticide Control Act, wrote Bachart, “expressly and conslusively displaces any local ordinance regarding pesticide use. The intention of the legislature is apparent and unambiguous.”

Most of the law was in effect while Bachart considered the arguments in the case. The ruling is “heartbreaking,” said Rio Davidson, a member of Lincoln County Community Rights, the grassroots group that wrote the initiative.

Davison said while the ban was in effect, most companies converted to ground-based pesticide application. But he said now, he expects “the larger corporations are going to go back to aerial spraying.”

Davidson says his group plans to appeal the ruling.

The group that formed to oppose the initiative issued a statement calling the ruling “good news.”

“Pesticide use by Lincoln County’s farmers, foresters, fishermen, vegetation managers and pest control professionals is already carefully regulated by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and supporting agencies – as it should be,” wote Alan Fujishin, director of the “Coalition to Defeat Measure 21-177.”  (source)

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first generic versions of Vyvanse, a drug used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a decision that comes amid a nationwide shortage of ADHD treatment drugs.

The newly approved medication can treat both ADHD in patients six years and older and binge-eating disorder in adults, the FDA said in an announcement.

The approval comes amid the nationwide shortage of Adderall, a drug commonly prescribed to treat ADHD. The FDA first announced the shortage in October, citing an insufficient supply to meet the growing demand for the drug. Millions of children diagnosed with ADHD are returning to classrooms as the school year kicks off, highlighting the demand for medication that can help them stay focused.

Unexpected demand spikes, manufacturing problems and limited ingredient supplies have all contributed to the shortage. A CDC analysis earlier this year found prescriptions to treat ADHD surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, as access to drugs expanded with telehealth opportunities.

Agriculture is the probable cause for making more than 145,000 miles of rivers and streams across the country too polluted for swimming, fishing, drinking, or maintaining healthy wildlife, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
 
Based on available livestock production data, today’s report calculates that Tyson’s supply chain alone generates more than 55 million tons of manure per year — manure that too often ends up untreated, ultimately fouling rivers, streams, and drinking water.
 
One example cited in the report: When chicken manure contaminated two sources of drinking water for Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tyson and other poultry processors agreed to pay the city $7.5 million.
 
Gabby Cammarata, a Salisbury, Maryland resident who joined Environment America on a call with reporters to discuss the study, is worried a proposed Tyson facility near her home could cause similar problems for her community’s drinking water supply.
 
The 3.1 million chicken factory farm “would be placed right on top of the underground aquifer which supplies all of the drinking water to the city of Salisbury and the town of Delmar,” Cammarata said. “There’s a real risk that manure could enter into our water table and ultimately our aquifer. Like most rural communities, our drinking water treatment system isn’t up to the task of dealing with all that pollution.”
 
From slaughtering plants run by the company or its subsidiaries, Tyson discharged over 20 million pounds of toxic pollutants to the nation’s waters in 2014 — more by volume than even Exxon Mobil or Dupont — according to data the company reported to the federal Toxics Release Inventory. Most of the company’s toxic discharges are nitrates, which are linked to blue baby syndrome and some forms of cancer.

Future research should evaluate: behaviors related to points of contact with animal feces; animal fecal contamination of food; cultural behaviors of animal fecal management; acute and chronic health risks associated with exposure to animal feces; and factors influencing concentrations and shedding rates of pathogens originating from animal feces.

The massive amount of human and animal excrement that we and our domesticated animals produce is changing the ecosystem of our planet in dangerous ways.

All this poop has to go somewhere, and much of it gets spread on agricultural fields as fertilizer. Soils need the microbes and nutrients in manure to be healthy, but we’re not managing manure properly, and the mismanagement is causing serious environmental and health problems. Current methods for managing and using agricultural manure—domesticated animals account for about 85 percent of the feces produced in a year—spread antimicrobial resistance genes, contaminate crops and waterways with microbes, and produce potent greenhouse gas emissions such as methane and nitrous oxide.

Neta C. Crawford, a political scientist at Oxford University, aims to fix that in her new book, The Pentagon, Climate Change, and War: Charting the Rise and Fall of US Military Emissions. Although the Pentagon has been at the forefront of climate change research since the mid-20th century, Crawford writes, the US Department of Defense is also the single largest institutional fossil fuel user in the world. Since 2001, the military has been responsible for 77 to 80 percent of federal energy consumption. 

The DOD maintains more than 560,000 buildings on about 500 bases around the world, making up a large portion of its emissions. And like a goliath multinational corporation, it relies on an extensive network of fossil-fueled ships, trucks, planes, and other vehicles to support its operations—from dropping bombs to delivering humanitarian aid—all of which makes the military a key contributor to climate change. And although recent research has demonstrated that the US military is one of the largest polluters in history, it still tends to be overlooked in climate change studies. 

Crawford’s book tries to fill this gap in the research, chronicling how the US military got caught in a long-term cycle of economic growth, fossil fuel use, and dependency.

Matthew Ehret is a Canadian geopolitical analyst, freelance journalist and co-founder of the Risingtide Foundation, whose website offers to readers many insights into these issues as well. An article by Ehret particularly intrigued me, dealing with the thorny issue of energy and in particular research on nuclear fusion. What follows is an interview with him, made with the idea of ​​going beyond the veil of official propaganda and probing the future that awaits us all with more realistic and disenchanted eyes.

What is the Green New Deal? In your opinion, is there a secret part of it, hidden from the general public?

ME: The Green New Deal is a perversion of the New Deal deployed by Franklin Roosevelt in the USA at the height of the Great Depression. While the original New Deal was based on a multipronged array of major policies that ranged from breaking up criminal banking houses, reigning in speculation, regulation, imposing protectionism to cultivate local production, blocking international central banking schemes for world government, and unleashing long term credit for large scale infrastructure, the Green New Deal is designed to achieve the opposing effect. Cooked up in the bowels of the City of London during the 2008-09 period, the Green New Deal is based upon a global overhaul of the world financial system which has again hit a systemic breakdown crisis, similar to that of the 1929 Great Depression. The difference being that the current reset is premised on using the tools of sovereign nations only as appendages of private global authorities to reduce the activity of human activity on the earth under the name of “green infrastructure”, “conservation” and “sustainability”.

Where the original New Deal increased the powers of industrial production of nation states and thus the power to support more people at higher standards of living, the Green New Deal demands that “green energy” replace bad (aka: ecologically unfriendly) forms of energy like hydropower, hydrocarbons, and nuclear with the effect of reducing the power availability and capacity to sustain our current population levels.

Why do you use the term “neo-Malthusians”? Who are these people?

ME: During the early 1960s, an anti-industrial growth movement began moving from the fringes into the mainstream consciousness premised around the conviction that humanity was intrinsically the enemy to nature. Utilizing linear computer models to input several variables like land availability, pollution, population growth, resource availability etc., future scenarios were charted by pure linear extrapolation that obviously calculated Armageddon-esque collapse points decades in the future… unless vast behavior modification and culling of the herd were not begun immediately. While the data and computing were more complex, the axioms and assumptions were identical to those utilized by British East India Company economist Thomas Malthus published 210 years ago in his Essays on Population (1799) which presumed the world would hit its maximum carrying capacity by the early 20th century. However, the problem with mathematicians who try to see the future from the filter of linear extrapolations like Malthus or his modern followers try to do, is that it is incompetent. Simply put, quantity cannot measure quality, and in their charts, there is no place for qualitative upshifts in new discoveries and the non-linear forms of scientific and technological progress that is the fruit of all true scientific (and even artistic) discovery. This is why this new movement became known as “neo Malthusians”.

Said like this, it sounds a bit like the Spectre of depopulation….

ME: That is exactly what this is.

The model proposed by Malthus is very simple and linear: wouldn’t it be appropriate to finally use a more sophisticated model to describe the trend of a population?

ME: Yes, absolutely. Throughout the past centuries there have been many prominent thinkers who have observed the correlation between:

1. population growth rates and
2. applied scientific progress.

Scientific progress itself takes on a two-fold character of pure and applied, meaning that when a new discovery is made into the hitherto unknown laws shaping physical space time, it doesn’t immediately affect the entire population levels. Something else must also occur for that to happen because each new discovery still has to be:

1. communicated to others, and thus
2. recognized and absorbed as new knowledge (which rarely happens without an immense amount of resistance).

Once this communication of new ideas begins to take hold, new powers of invention and experimentation begin to be expressed with the effect that new and better forms of technologies can be brought online improving the human condition and productive powers of labor. Think of what happens when the discovery of electricity is applied to human voluntary behavior in terms of the power of communication which condense time and space between people, and also the powers of industrial activity powered by electricity vs older forms of animal or human labor.

The effect of improving our economic performance in this manner results in an increased potential carrying capacity of our species as a whole. That is to say, we can sustain more people at higher standards of living. In final examination we find that humanity’s very relationship with the universe is tuned in this manner as new resources are brought online that were formerly not resources in earlier states of ignorance and we are liberated by the former boundary conditions pressing upon our population potential. This relationship between the mind of individual original thinkers and human population growth is something that Malthus despised since it upset his mathematical formulas which are very much premised upon an obsessive sense of control of what already exists and not creation of that which exists not. 

You will find a current of thinkers in world history stand in direct opposition to Malthusians (and yes there were Malthusians before Malthus) and some of the most exceptional among them in my mind are:

• Gottfried Leibniz,

How does scientific research on quantum computers and artificial intelligence fits into a neo-Malthusian paradigm?

ME: Although Malthusians despise the creation of new discoveries and their application in ways that benefit humanity, they are more than willing to steal new discoveries and use them for their own benefit in ways that bring humanity into greater states of enslavement. Artificial intelligence as we see it sold today is premised on a major fallacy which is the belief that the powers of machine learning are analogous to human mental activity with the exception that machines can calculate faster, apply deductive and inductive logic to process information quicker and thus will render the slower processing machines called human minds redundant and obsolete in time. This line of thinking does not recognize the fact that thinking machines themselves are limited to what is put into their programs by a creative human being governed not by formulas but by intentions, ideas, identities etc. which are inexpressible by a computer or logical positivist. As an example, a machine can improve its performance in playing chess or any other process that obeys a certain fixed array of “rules”, but it cannot create a qualitatively new game, nor can it break the underlying rules that are built into their programming and which are blocking new knowledge from being discovered.

That said, while both “AI”, automation, machine learning, and quantum computing could and should be used by humanity to benefit our species, the oligarchical system that operates on Malthusian assumptions wills that these only be used by the master class to keep the human herd controlled and systems of production, consumption and distribution of goods limited according to certain formulas of “optimum carrying capacities”.

Nuclear fusion, hot and cold: two parallel sabotages?

ME: Absolutely. Fusion funding was massively slashed in the USA by the late 1960s as the Malthusians increasingly took control of US energy policy. Trilateral Commission member James Schlesinger (energy czar of the USA) played a vicious role in this. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s a fear of nuclear power in general was cultivated by Three Mile Island (which we are increasingly seeing was the effect of sabotage) and also the events of Chernobyl which was a highly overrated crisis which resulted in very few deaths and radiation levels far below what we find naturally occurring on many beaches in Brazil. The psychological impact was to cause fear of atomic power to really take over the zeitgeist as we gave our consent to the criminal sabotage of new lines of scientific and technological progress, with many of the most promising lines of research on stellarators, laser fusion and plasma research destroyed on the one hand and increasingly the majority of our “fusion science” resources were absorbed into gigantic projects like France’s ITER tokamak that is based on extremely limited designs without much hope for achieving commercial viability for many generations. Many promising “outside the box” fusion projects which break from the standard model assumptions of the atom (many of which are keeping us locked into senseless modes of research bearing no new discoveries) have been funded by the US military and the industrial complex associated with it and when these projects begin to bear fruit we find funding cut, the leading scientists and engineers iced out of operations or muzzled and prevented from publishing their research publicly. One most tragic case study of this occurring is Dr. Robert Bussard’s Polywell technology. It appears that at least among the west, under current conditions the safest approaches to carrying non-standard theory fusion research forward with the least amount of sabotage is found in the private sector with a great example being Eric Lerner’s fusion LLP founded in 2008, with only six employees and a hairstring budget of several million dollars/year but with experimental results that are near miraculous for sustained extremely hot plasmas.

Is it possible to abandon fossil fuels without incurring the deliberate murder of a part of the human race?

ME: No. The current productive powers of labor needed to sustain our eight billion lives on earth would be immensely sabotaged by removing fossil fuels from our energy basket, in favor of “green” sustainable energies that generate unreliable low-grade electricity incapable of supporting modern industrial activity. As an example, why “renewable energies” are not actually even renewable, you cannot even make windmills using windmill energy. The types of energy intensive mining activities needed to build solar panels cannot themselves be maintained by solar power activity. The truth is that at least for the coming decades, if we are serious about eliminating poverty, then humanity must increase and not decrease use of “fossil fuels”- especially as far as Africa is concerned which must have the right to use the abundant resources under its soil as a driver for industrial growth.

What do you think of Covid? Now there is a lot of talk about the Omicron variant…

ME: Based on everything I’ve seen since day one, the current pandemic is the effect of a highly centralized system of data set controls, mass behavioral modification and health care protocol controls which have no bearing on reality. Data sets are manipulated to project false numbers of Covid cases, and Covid fatalities with a complicit corporate media invoking states of psychological panic in the population in order to shut down thinking, and deflect attention away from the real causes of the systemic breakdown of the financial system which began to fall apart long before COVID was created as a boogeyman.

Russia, China and other countries do not seem to be following a depopulation script… Are Western elites simply committing suicide?

ME: This is a perfect case of ivory tower thinking breaking down when pressed up against actual human thinking. The western liberal “rules-based order”, governed by technocrats is still following the same old uncreative script that has been animating the post-WWII period. There once were creative grand strategists that laid out the terms of this post-1945 Great Game in the form of Bertrand Russell, HG Welles, Sir Julian Huxley et al. But those actual creative misanthropic game masters have long since died, and the 2nd, 3rd and even 4th generation technocratic managers now manning the helm of the western unipolar ship have themselves been processed through the anti-creative systems of education and culture which were constructed to smother the creativity in their victims while maintaining a caste system of hierarchical controls. 

The new Schwabian technocrats entirely lack any signs of actual creative powers and are just obsessed with the script they have been obedient to for decades. Russia and China have both had their own recent battles with this sort of technocratic infiltration with Soros’ agent Zhao Ziyang nearly running a coup in 1989 in China before being purged, and we all know the devastation done to Russia during the 1990s. But now both great nations have shown an incredible power of creative flexibility and are fortunately under the influence of intelligentsias that appear to have a very good grasp of the agencies obsessed with bringing about a post-nation, anti-population, one world government. Both nations have created the foundation for a new multipolar system of win-win cooperation founded upon constant rates of scientific and technological progress which is exactly what is needed to flank the closed system thinking of the oligarchy.

Mr. N was given $35,000 up front, in this matter, and according to my recollection, the agreement that we entered into stated that this amount covered all legal fees for this entire case.

There were other fees for an expert witness, who neither was called upon to testify, nor prepared, or provided a written report based upon our one time encounter.
Attorney M got the lion’s share of the loot during the appeals process.
All totaled, between the two of them, in excess of $100,000.

If I’m gonna pay anyone, it’ll be the person who is willing to go after the whole lot of them, DAs, judges, cops, criminal defensive, and very offensive as well. The state Supreme Court, that took my case, milked me for over $60,000, and then refused to rule, should be in the stocks, with me holdin’ the bullwhip.

And, then he brought me back to jail from prison again (oh that’s such a fun ride, and visit), to lambast me once again, before handing down maximum time, all to be run consecutive.

(There were several victim impact statements from terrified police officers, who were having panic, and terrors, because of the evil man, who’s been behind bars for two and a half years now.  Those must have been some killer phone calls. I’ve never heard them, other than when I made them. Memory ain’t that good, especially with a freshly kicked in face.

Alternatively, I was not permitted to make a victim impact statement at the sentencing of the Partee fellow, who rearranged my skull.)

If we hadn’t been able to put together the hundred grand, I’d have never met you.  There’s something to be grateful for. But, why, when I write this, do I feel sick, and feel like I’m going to cry?

Judges Reject Appeal in ‘Sleeping Attorney’ Case; Los Angeles Times/ Oct 28, 2000 — During Burdine’s trial, his court-appointed lawyer, Joe Frank Cannon, frequently fell asleep, according to jurors and the court clerk.

The problem is the Supreme Court has created a very, very high bar for proving that your lawyer was ineffective. The test comes from a rather well-known 1984 case called Strickland v. Washington, which set up a two-part standard. First, as a defendant who lost a trial, you have to prove on appeal that your trial lawyer was defective, was deficient: they failed to investigate the case, they didn’t put on an alibi witness, they didn’t cross-examine their opponents, things like that. And then second, you have to show that the deficiency somehow contributed to the bad verdict, to the conviction. In other words, it’s not enough to show that your lawyer messed up. You have to show that that error was somehow outcome-determinative.

I saw one study that found that 97% of the time when a defendant raises one of these ineffectiveness issues on appeal, they lose. And cases where lawyers were drunk or under the influence of drugs have been upheld, or at least not considered ineffective performance of counsel. One despicable case from Texas, I think, is really illustrative: A man is charged with murder and he’s facing the death penalty. He’s too poor to pay for a lawyer, so he’s assigned one by the court. That lawyer falls asleep intermittently throughout the trial. How the Billionaires become Billionaires

Contrary to the propaganda pushed by the business press, between 67% and 72% percent of corporations had zero tax liabilities after credits and exemptions … while their workers and employees paid between 25 – 30% in taxes. The rate for the minority of corporations, which paid any tax, was 14%.

According to the US Internal Revenue Service, billionaire tax evasion amounts to $458 billion dollars in lost public revenues every year – almost a trillion dollars every two years by this conservative estimate.

The largest US corporations sheltered over $2.5 trillion dollars in overseas tax havens where they paid no taxes or single digit tax rates.

Meanwhile US corporations in crisis received over $14.4 trillion dollars (Bloomberg claimed 12.8 trillion) in public bailout money, split between the US Treasury and the Federal Reserve, mostly from US tax payers, who are overwhelmingly workers, employees and pensioners.

The recipient bankers invested their interest-free or low interest US bailout funds and earned billions in profits, most resulting from mortgage foreclosures of working class households.

Through favorable legal rulings and illegal foreclosures, the bankers evicted 9.3 million families. Over 20 million individuals lost their properties, often due to illegal or fraudulent debts.

A small number of the financial swindlers, including executives from Wall Street’s leading banks (Goldman Sachs, J. P. Morgan etc), paid fines – but no one went to prison for the gargantuan fraud that drove millions of Americans into misery.

There are other swindler bankers, like the current Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin, who enriched themselves by illegally foreclosing on thousands of homeowners in California. Some were tried; all were exonerated, thanks to the influence of Democratic political leaders during the Obama years.

Class inequalities are further reinforced by ethnic divisions. White, Chinese and Indian multi-millionaires exploit Afro-American, Latin American, Vietnamese and Filipino workers.

Billionaires in the commercial conglomerates, like Walmart, exploit workers by paying poverty wages and providing few, if any, benefits. Walmart earns $16 billion dollar a year in profits by paying its workers between $10 and $13 an hour and relying on state and federal assistance to provide services to the families of its impoverished workers through Medicaid and food stamps. Amazon plutocrat Jeff Bezos exploits workers by paying $12.50 an hour while he has accumulated over $80 billion dollars in profits. UPS CEO David Albany takes $11 million a year by exploiting workers at $11 an hour. Federal Express CEO, Fred Smith gets $16 million and pays workers $11 an hour.

Inequality is not a result of ‘technology’ and ‘education’- contemporary euphemisms for the ruling class cult of superiority – as liberals and conservative economists and journalists like to claim. Inequalities are a result of low wages, based on big profits, financial swindles, multi-trillion dollar public handouts and multi-billion-dollar tax evasion. The ruling class has mastered the ‘technology’ of exploiting the state, through its pillage of the treasury, and the working class. Capitalist exploitation of low paid production workers provides additional billions for the ‘philanthropic’ billionaire family foundations to polish their public image – using another tax avoidance gimmick – self-glorifying ‘donations’.

Workers pay disproportional taxes for education, health, social and public services and subsidies for billionaires.

Billionaires in the arms industry and security/mercenary conglomerates receive over $700 billion dollars from the federal budget, while over 100 million US workers lack adequate health care and their children are warehoused in deteriorating schools.

Workers and Bosses: Mortality Rates

Billionaires and multi-millionaires and their families enjoy longer and healthier lives than their workers. They have no need for health insurance policies or public hospitals. CEO’s live on average ten years longer than a worker and enjoy twenty years more of healthy and pain-free lives.

Private, exclusive clinics and top medical care include the most advanced treatment and safe and proven medication which allow billionaires and their family members to live longer and healthier lives. The quality of their medical care and the qualifications of their medical providers present a stark contrast to the health care apartheid that characterizes the rest of the United States.

Workers are treated and mistreated by the health system: They have inadequate and often incompetent medical treatment, cursory examinations by inexperienced medical assistants and end up victims of the widespread over-prescription of highly addictive narcotics and other medications. Over-prescription of narcotics by incompetent ‘providers’ has significantly contributed to the rise in premature deaths among workers, spiraling cases of opiate overdose, disability due to addiction and descent into poverty and homelessness. These irresponsible practices have made additional billions of dollars in profits for the insurance corporate elite, who can cut their pensions and health care liabilities as injured, disabled and addicted workers drop out of the system or die.

The shortened life expectancy for workers and their family members is celebrated on Wall Street and in the financial press. Over 560,000 workers were killed by opioids between 1999-2015 contributing to the decline in life expectancy for working age wage and salary earners and reduced pension liabilities for Wall Street and the Social Security Administration.

Inequalities are cumulative, inter-generational and multi-sectorial.

Billionaire families, their children and grandchildren, inherit and invest billions. They have privileged access to the most prestigious schools and medical facilities, and conveniently fall in love to equally privileged, well-connected mates to join their fortunes and form even greater financial empires. Their wealth buys favorable, even fawning, mass media coverage and the services of the most influential lawyers and accountants to cover their swindles and tax evasion.

Billionaires hire innovators and sweat shop MBA managers to devise more ways to slash wages, increase productivity and ensure that inequalities widen even further. Billionaires do not have to be the brightest or most innovative people: Such individuals can simply be bought or imported on the ‘free market’ and discarded at will.

Billionaires have bought out or formed joint ventures with each other, creating interlocking directorates. Banks, IT, factories, warehouses, food and appliance, pharmaceuticals and hospitals are linked directly to political elites who slither through doors of rotating appointments within the IMF, the World Bank, Treasury, Wall Street banks and prestigious law firms.

Consequences of Inequalities

First and foremost, billionaires and their political, legal and corporate associates dominate the political parties. They designate the leaders and key appointees, thus ensuring that budgets and policies will increase their profits, erode social benefits for the masses and weaken the political power of popular organizations.

Secondly, the burden of the economic crisis is shifted on to the workers who are fired and later re-hired as part-time, contingent labor. Public bailouts, provided by the taxpayer, are channeled to the billionaires under the doctrine that Wall Street banks are too big to fail and workers are too weak to defend their wages, jobs and living standards.

Billionaires buy political elites, who appoint the World Bank and IMF officials tasked with instituting policies to freeze or reduce wages, slash corporate and public health care obligations and increase profits by privatizing public enterprises and facilitating corporate relocation to low wage, low tax countries.

As a result, wage and salary workers are less organized and less influential; they work longer and for less pay, suffer greater workplace insecurity and injuries – physical and mental – fall into decline and disability, drop out of the system, die earlier and poorer, and, in the process, provide unimaginable profits for the billionaire class. Even their addiction and deaths provide opportunities for huge profit – as the Sackler Family, manufacturers of Oxycontin, can attest.

The billionaires and their political acolytes argue that deeper regressive taxation would increase investments and jobs. The data speaks otherwise. The bulk of repatriated profits are directed to buy back stock to increase dividends for investors; they are not invested in the productive economy. Lower taxes and greater profits for conglomerates means more buy-outs and greater outflows to low wage countries. In real terms taxes are already less than half the headline rate and are a major factor heightening the concentration of income and power – both cause and effect.

Corporate elites, the billionaires in the Silicon Valley-Wall Street global complex are relatively satisfied that their cherished inequalities are guaranteed and expanding under the Demo-Republican Presidents- as the ‘good times’ roll on.

Away from the ‘billionaire elite’, the ‘outsiders’ – domestic capitalists – clamor for greater public investment in infrastructure to expand the domestic economy, lower taxes to increase profits, and state subsidies to increase the training of the labor force while reducing funds for health care and public education. They are oblivious to the contradiction.

In other words, the capitalist class as a whole, globalist and domestic alike, pursues the same regressive policies, promoting inequalities while struggling over shares of the profits.

One hundred and fifty million wage and salaried taxpayers are excluded from the political and social decisions that directly affect their income, employment, rates of taxation, and political representation.

They understand, or at least experience, how the class system works. Most workers know about the injustice of the fake ‘free trade’ agreements and regressive tax regime, which weighs heavy on the majority of wage and salary earners.

However, worker hostility and despair is directed against ‘immigrants’ and against the ‘liberals’ who have backed the import of cheap skilled and semi-skilled labor under the guise of ‘freedom’. This ‘politically correct’ image of imported labor covers up a policy, which has served to lower wages, benefits and living standards for American workers, whether they are in technology, construction or production. Rich conservatives, on the other hand, oppose immigration under the guise of ‘law and order’ and to lower social expenditures – despite that fact that they all use imported nannies, tutors, nurses, doctors and gardeners to service their families. Their servants can always be deported when convenient.

The pro and anti-immigrant issue avoids the root cause for the economic exploitation and social degradation of the working class – the billionaire owners operating in alliance with the political elite.

In order to reverse the regressive tax practices and tax evasion, the low wage cycle and the spiraling death rates resulting from narcotics and other preventable causes, which profit insurance companies and pharmaceutical billionaires, class alliances need to be forged linking workers, consumers, pensioners, students, the disabled, the foreclosed homeowners, evicted tenants, debtors, the under-employed and immigrants as a unified political force.

Sooner said than done, but never tried! Everything and everyone is at stake: life, health and happiness.

Covid-19 vaccines have created at least nine new billionaires after shares in companies producing the shots soared.

Topping the list of new billionaires are Moderna (MRNA) CEO Stéphane Bancel and Ugur Sahin, the CEO of BioNTech (BNTX), which has produced a vaccine with Pfizer (PFE). Both CEOs are now worth around $4 billion, according to an analysis by the People’s Vaccine Alliance, a campaign group that includes Oxfam, UNAIDS, Global Justice Now and Amnesty International.

Senior executives from China’s CanSino Biologics and early investors in Moderna have also become billionaires on paper as shares skyrocketed, partly in expectation of profits earned from Covid vaccines, which also bode well for the companies’ future prospects. The analysis was compiled using data from the Forbes Rich List.

Moderna’s share price has gained more than 700% since February 2020, while BioNTech has surged 600%. CanSino Biologics’ stock is up about 440% over the same period. The company’s single-dose Covid-19 vaccine was approved for use in China in February.

Activists said the wealth generation highlighted the stark inequality that has resulted from the pandemic. The nine new billionaires are worth a combined $19.3 billion, enough to fully vaccinate some 780 million people in low-income countries, campaigners said.

“These billionaires are the human face of the huge profits many pharmaceutical corporations are making from the monopoly they hold on these vaccines,” Anne Marriott, Oxfam’s health policy manager, said in a statement. “These vaccines were funded by public money and should be first and foremost a global public good, not a private profit opportunity,” she added.

A recent Lowy Institute poll found that eight in ten Australians believe the nation’s alliance with the United States is important for Australia’s security, despite three-quarters also saying they believe the alliance makes Australia more likely to be drawn into a war in Asia.

US defense contractors are expected to be the biggest beneficiaries.

Washington is sending 6,500 Javelin anti-tank missile systems, which are made by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The cost of each missile is about $78,000 (£66,000) and the reusable launcher is another $100,000 (£85,000). Ukraine will receive more of the systems from France and Estonia, with another 200 coming from the UK.

The US is also donating counter-artillery radar systems made by the same companies, along with American defence giant Northrop Grumman.

Another boon for Raytheon will come from the US decision to send 1,400 Stinger anti-aircraft missile launchers. The company has already been awarded a $625m (£494m) contract to replenish the stocks. Germany is giving Ukraine 500 of the systems and more are coming from Denmark, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and the Netherlands.

More good news for Lockheed Martin came from the US plan to give Ukraine four M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS). The company also produces the long-range M270 rocket launchers being sent by the UK.

Another key item is the Switchblade aerial system made by the AeroVironment, known colloquially as a “kamikaze drone”. The US has pledged 700 of them.

Ukraine is receiving 50bn rounds of ammunition from the US, which is likely to benefit Olin, the US army’s largest small-arms ammunitions supplier.

Sharp, a theorist and author of groundbreaking works on the dynamics of nonviolent conflict, has been called the “dictator slayer,” the “Machiavelli of nonviolence,” and the Clausewitz of unarmed revolution. His circumstances are humble: he runs his research outfit, known as the Albert Einstein Institution, out of the ground floor of his row house in East Boston, and the organization has just one other staffer. For the most part, Sharp has labored for decades in quiet obscurity—well respected within a small field of study but virtually unknown outside of it.

At the same time, Sharp’s work has had an unusually broad impact. His pamphlet From Dictatorship to Democracy, a ninety-three-page distillation of his core insights and a handbook for overthrowing autocrats, has been translated into more than thirty languages. The slim volume has a habit of turning up in hot spots of global resistance. Originally written in 1993 to help dissidents in Burma use nonviolent action against the ruling junta, the book made it into the library of Serbian students seeking to overthrow the regime of Slobodan Milošević, circulated among activists during successful uprisings in Georgia and the Ukraine, and was downloaded in Arabic amid mass protests in Tunisia and Egypt.

In the first hundred years of contact with the Western world, beginning with the British in the late 18th century, the population of Hawaiʻi was brutalized by disease, violence, and environmental degradation caused by the exploitation of the islands’ natural resources. As part of its response to the Maui wildfires, Biden promised a one-time payment of $700 per household to applicants who were displaced from their homes, an amount far from adequate to meet the needs of residents in the wake of the disaster. Zelenskyy says wants Ukraine to become a ‘big Israel’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he wants his country to become a “‘big Israel’ with its own face” after the Russian invasion ends, stressing that security would likely be the main issue in Ukraine during the post-war period.

In comments to local media posted on the president’s official website on Tuesday, Zelenskyy stressed that his vision for Ukraine’s post-conflict future included having armed forces in “all institutions, supermarkets, cinemas, there will be people with weapons”.

In Israel, images of armed civilians, settlers and soldiers are commonplace, and the government invokes security frequently.

Zelenskyy, who is Jewish, has on several occasions stressed the importance of maintaining close ties with Israel, which he hailed as a model for Ukraine.

“I am sure that our security issue will be number one in the next 10 years,” Zelenskyy said, dismissing the idea that post-war Ukraine would emulate a liberal European democracy such as Switzerland as a model. He said that the Ukrainian people “will be our great army”.

Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine would not be “absolutely liberal, European”; that it would have to undertake a different modus operandi.

Johnstone gained a BA in Russian Area Studies and a PhD in French Literature from the University of Minnesota.^[1] She was active in the movement against the Vietnam War, organizing the first international contacts between American citizens and Vietnamese representatives. Most of Johnstone’s adult life has been spent in France, Germany, and Italy.

Johnstone was European editor of the U.S. weekly In These Times from 1979 to 1990. She was press officer of the Green group in the European Parliament from 1990 to 1996. From 1996 to 2000, she was associated editor of the Paris quarterly Dialogue concerned with Balkan geopolitics.^{[citation needed]}

Fool’s Crusade[edit]

After the 2003 publication of her Fools’ Crusade: Yugoslavia, Nato, and Western Delusions, Johnstone became known for her claim in the book that there is “no evidence whatsoever” that the Srebrenica massacre of the Bosniaks was genocidal.^[2] The historian Marko Attila Hoare called it “an extremely poor book, one that is little more than a polemic in defence of the Serb-nationalist record during the wars of the 1990s—and an ill-informed one at that”.^[3]

The book was rejected by publishers in Sweden,^[3] prompting an open letter in 2003 defending Johnstone’s book—and her right to publish—that was signed by, among others, Noam Chomsky, Arundhati Roy, Tariq Ali and John Pilger. The signatories stated: “We regard Diana Johnstone’s Fools’ Crusade as an outstanding work, dissenting from the mainstream view but doing so by an appeal to fact and reason, in a great tradition.”^[4][5] Ed Vulliamy, who reported for The Guardian during the Bosnian War, called Johnstone’s book “poison” finding unbelievable the response of Chomsky and the others.^[6] In March 2006, David Aaronovitch in The Times wrote: “In the sense that the world understood there to have been an act amounting to genocide at Srebrenica … Johnstone certainly, and Chomsky implicitly, had most certainly denied the massacre”. In the book “and elsewhere she had argued that the numbers of deaths had been exaggerated, that many supposed victims were in fact still alive somewhere, that Srebrenica had actually been an armed camp, that the Bosnians had deliberately let it be overrun hoping for a anti-Serb propaganda coup, that there had been some regrettable ‘revenge’ killings, as can happen in wartime”.^[7]

In her own defence, Johnstone has said her critics “reduce [her] book, as they reduce the Balkan conflict itself, to a certain number of notorious atrocities, and stigmatise whatever deviates from their own dualistic interpretation”.^[8]

Richard Caplan of Reading and Oxford University reviewed the work in International Affairs, where he described the work as “a revisionist and highly contentious account of western policy and the dissolution of Yugoslavia. … [It] is insightful but overzealous … well worth reading—but for the discriminating eye.”^[9]

Kyle Rittenhouse has said he is being sued for “defending” his life as the estate of a man he killed brings a new lawsuit against him.

According to updates filed on litigation monitoring site pacermonitor.com, a complaint with jury demand has been filed against “all defendants” by the estate of Joseph Rosenbaum, who was killed during the unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020.

It is suing Rittenhouse, along with Kenosha officials, local sheriff’s departments, the City of Kenosha, the City of West Allis, and several counties for “compensatory and punitive damages” in the “wrongful death” of Rosenbaum.

Rittenhouse, 20, hit international headlines after he travelled to Kenosha, Wisconsin, from his home in Antioch, Illinois, where he shot three men during the disturbances that were sparked by the shooting of Joseph Blake, a Black man, by police officers.

Two of the victims died after being shot with an assault rifle. In a high-profile trial, Rittenhouse was found not guilty for the murders of Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber after the jury ruled he had acted in self-defense. He was 17 at the time of the killings. The verdict was met with protests across the U.S.

Kathrin Mentler went to Vancouver General Hospital seeking psychiatric help in the midst of a mental health crisis.

Mentler says that she lives with chronic suicidal thoughts and sought out the hospital’s help to put herself in a position where it would be a lot harder for her to attempt an drug overdose or other self-harming behaviours.

“I didn’t want to get into a situation where I would think about taking an overdose of medication,” said Mentler.

“That day my goal was to keep myself safe. I was thinking of maybe trying to get myself admitted to hospital because I was in crisis.”

Mentler says that she arrived at Vancouver General’s Access and Assessment Centre and was told there weren’t any beds available for her, and that she should expect a long wait before she could see a psychiatrist.

At this point, Mentler says that she was asked if she had ever considered MAID (medical assistance in dying), with the clinician telling Mentler about the “relief” she felt after patients with mental illness had committed suicide through MAID.

Mentler says that the clinician suggesting MAID to her made her feel like her life was “worthless,” and that she was a problem that could be solved with MAID.

…Currently, it is illegal to deliver MAID to Canadians who are not suffering from a grievous and irremediable medical condition and whose only medical condition is mental illness.

However, cases like Mentler’s have become more of a common occurrence, with several stories of medical staff offering MAID to otherwise healthy Canadians.

…In 2021, a total of 10,064 Canadians died through MAID, representing 3.3% of all Canadian deaths that year. “

For Ms Heim-Myers, access to assisted death is about compassion and respecting people’s decisions.

When President Obama decided to bail out the banks, instead of writing down the bank loans to what would have been reasonable levels, instead of saving the junk mortgage victims from their houses, he decided to go along with his boss, Robert Rubin, the former Treasury Secretary under Bill Clinton, and save Citibank and the other big banks that were the most troubled banks of all.

And they’re still the most troubled banks of all, except they have a government guarantee, just like Obama gave them, that no matter how much they lose, they will not lose the money. No matter how much the banks lose in negative net worth, the economy will lose, not the banks.

All of that became implicit when the Federal Reserve decided to help the banks that were insolvent in 2008 and 2009, to help them recover their net worth by quantitative easing.

That is creating $9 trillion worth of Federal Reserve balance sheet support of the banks to enable the banks to drive down interest rates to near zero, 0.1%, which is about what banks were paying their depositors.
