Boycotts of Israeli universities, largely imposed in Europe, have multiplied since the start of the war and reflect Israel’s international isolation over its conduct in Gaza.

After an initial denial, a Turning Point USA chapter was granted registered student organization status during an emergency Associated Students of Fort Lewis College board meeting Friday night on campus.

Turning Point USA, a nonprofit organization that promotes conservative politics on high school and college campuses, was founded in 2012 by political activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed Sept. 10 on the Utah Valley University campus.

During a contentious four-hour ASFLC board meeting last week – where more than 30 students spoke in opposition – the board voted unanimously to deny Turning Point USA official status.

Friday’s emergency board meeting was held to revisit that decision after pushback from the group’s proposed leaders and outcry from some conservative students and community members.

A petition opposing the chapter gathered nearly 500 signatures. A second petition calling for the student board’s decision to be overturned collected more than 1,300.

Colorado Politics reported that Colorado House Republicans sent FLC President Heather Shotton a letter urging her to reconsider the student board’s decision.

Only about 30 people were allowed inside the chamber Friday because of fire safety regulations, leaving more than 60 students and community members waiting outside.

Although the border was reopened within a matter of days, once again, the shutdown severely hurt the border economy – as well as relations between the two countries.

Those who lived through the 1980s were under the impression that the Reagans were the bottom of American ugliness and stupidity in politics. How could the US go lower than that presidency, which had a B-movie actor playing a president? But the US did hit a new bottom with George W. Bush, who had nothing to recommend him but the pure luck of being born into a family with money and influence. Dim Bush was massively incompetent and managed to bankrupt the US with two costly wars and the biggest economic crash since 1929. The really astonishing thing is, as bad as Bush was, he wasn’t bad enough to prepare us for the new bottom, Trump.

What’s terrifying is the idea of going lower than Trump is no longer unimaginable precisely because we keep hitting new and more shocking lows. Who is next in line? Kid Rock? We no longer can dismiss this possibility. But to see how far down we’ve gone from the Reagan years, you only need to read a New York Times article that was published on September 24, 1985. It concerns Nancy Reagan’s trip to Mexico after the 8.0 earthquake. She not only went to Mexico but also brought “a letter of sympathy” from her husband, The Gipper, and a check as “down payment” ($1 million—$2.3 million in today’s value) for “United States Government disaster aid to Mexico.” At the time, this was considered to be common decency even for phony, stupid, and racist white American politicians. The new low inflates the phoniness, the stupidity, and the racism but eliminates any kind of decency.

His response to the 8.2 earthquake that rocked Mexico earlier this month was famously slow, and he when he finally got around to saying something, he lied about the cause of the delay (the Mexican president’s cellphone wasn’t working). Despite tweeting something about yesterday’s earthquake, one is almost certain that in the absence of the generals (who now run what they can of the White House), Trump would have said nothing and gone on and on about his “fucken wall.”

The father of a 2-year-old boy who drowned in the Siletz River in March after last being seen playing in his yard has been charged with neglect.

Dane Paulsen

A massive search effort took place last spring when Dane Paulsen went missing from his parents’ property along the Siletz River on March 1. Investigators later said the toddler appeared to have gone down a river bank and slipped into the water.

His parents, Chamet Jackson and Aaron Paulsen, who own the Chowder Bowl restaurant in Depoe Bay, told deputies he was last seen playing in the front yard of their house bordered by the river and Highway 229.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s office, bands of Siletz neighbors and people from across the county spent 10 days searching for the missing boy, combing forest land, the family property, and the river with divers and boats.

The search came to a halt after 11 days when a volunteer diver from California who specializes in recovering bodies from rivers and lakes found the boy three miles downstream from his home. Officials determined that the cause of Dane’s death was by drowning and that he had no other injuries.

More than six months after Dane died, a Lincoln County grand jury on Oct. 16 issued a secret indictment of Paulsen on one count of second-degree child neglect, which is a misdemeanor. His mother has not been charged with any crime. The filing became public Wednesday.

The indictment said that Paulsen while in “custody or control of Dane Paulsen, did unlawfully and with criminal negligence leave Dane Paulsen, a child under the age of 10 years, unattended in or at a place, for such period of time as was likely to endanger the health or welfare of said child.”

The Lincoln County district attorney’s office and the sheriff’s department did not respond to requests for comment or more details about the case and investigation.

Lincoln Chronicle was unable to reach the lawyer representing Paulsen. Dane’s mother, Chamet Jackson, told KATU News that her husband had just gotten home when Dane went missing and denied he played a role in their son’s death.

A warrant for Paulsen’s arrest was filed Oct. 20. His bail is set for $20,000 and his arraignment is scheduled Monday, Nov. 3. According to Lincoln County jail logs, he is not currently in custody.

Kennedy Jr., the secretary of health and human services, has elevated. In his eyes, this paradoxical relationship to expertise is exactly what qualifies her for the job.

Epstein was an invaluable resource for Israel’s former prime minister, who also served as head of intelligence and defense minister throughout his career, sharing whispers from within Russian elite circles and intel on Putin’s interlocutors in Europe and the U.S—and even advising him on how to engage with the Mossad. Barak, fresh out of his role as Israeli defense minister, built a deep portfolio of investments and business relationships around the world with Epstein’s help.

On February 21, 2014, Epstein wrote to Barak, “with civil unrest exploding in ukraine syria, somolia [sic], libya, and the desperation of those in power, isn’t this perfect for you.” Barak replied: “You’re right [in] a way. But not simple to transform it into a cash flow. A subject for Saturday.”

These efforts also provided cover for covert diplomacy on behalf of the Israeli government. Together, Barak and Epstein sought to pressure the Obama administration to either intervene directly in the Syrian war, or make concessions to the Kremlin in exchange for Assad’s graceful exit. Despite securing a sit-down with Putin in the summer of 2013, they did not succeed in convincing Russia to support Assad’s ouster, but their negotiations set the stage for U.S.-Russia cooperation on disarmament of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal a few months later.
