Oregon Assistant Attorney General Stacy M. Chaffin argued in a brief submitted Friday to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that since the larger panel of 11 judges, known as an en banc panel, was formed on the temporary order, it “may decide all matters in the case including, at the en banc court’s option, future appeals in the same case.”
Chaffin’s brief came in response to the Justice Department’s motion to dismiss its appeal of Immergut’s Oct. 4 temporary restraining order. The federal Justice Department has argued the temporary order is now moot.

Hundreds of top economists and other experts, including former U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, called on Friday for the world to set up an independent international panel on income and wealth inequality.

That report, which was released this month, said that the world is facing an inequality emergency as well as a climate emergency, leading to more political instability and conflicts, and “decreased confidence in democracy.”
Between 2000 and 2024, the richest 1% captured 41% of all new wealth created in the world, the report said. Meanwhile, one in four people globally — around 2.3 billion people — now face moderate or severe food insecurity, meaning they regularly skip meals. That number has increased by 335 million people since 2019, the report said.

4 Oregon state park projects put on hold as agency runs low on funds

On July 13, 69-year-old Willem Van Spronsen used incendiary devices to attack a number of vehicles belonging to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington. The attack came just hours after an anti-ICE protest outside of the facility. Van Spronsen was fatally shot during an ensuing confrontation with the police. He had been involved in social struggles for over a decade and actively involved in a long-standing battle against the Northwest Detention Center; he was arrested in 2018 at a protest outside of the facility while attempting to prevent police from arresting a 17-year-old demonstrator. As news spread of Van Spronsen’s death and final acts, many were appalled by his actions, while others celebrated them online. Very few, however, were surprised. Though he acted alone, his actions are part of a long collective history of struggle at the Detention Center.
The Northwest Detention Center (NWDC), built in 2004, sits about forty minutes south of Seattle, just blocks from Commencement Bay, a former superfund site and one of the most active commercial ports in the world. Amid this bustling locus of commerce, stands one of the largest immigration detention centers in the United States, generating $57 million annually for the private corrections company GEO Group.

The Tacoma Police Department said the officers responded about 4 a.m. to the privately run Tacoma Northwest Detention Center, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security detention facility that holds migrants pending deportation proceedings. The detention center has also held immigration-seeking parents separated from their children under President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy, an effort meant to deter illegal immigration.

Almada’s testimony prompted a response from Kaplan, the mayor: “I want to repeat that this council will do everything that we can do in support and to fight this.”
“Newport is a city built on trust, diverse cultures, and shared responsibility. We will work together, thoughtfully, transparently, and within the bounds of the law to protect those values,” Jan Kaplan, mayor of Newport said.

The GEO Group runs 99 facilities worldwide, including secure facilities, processing centers, and community reentry centers. Local leaders can’t get answers from federal government
Newport City and Oregon state leaders say there is a basis to the rumors, although they have been unsuccessful in getting concrete answers from federal agencies.
Rep. David Gomberg, D-Otis, whose district includes Newport, said they have been able to confirm that the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter that has been stationed there since the mid-1980s has been moved to North Bend.
Besides the helicopter being moved to North Bend, Mayor Kaplan said another clue that the federal government was interested in space at the airport came from a contractor inquiring about a potential lease and the ability to make changes to the site.
Through a records request, KATU identified the contractor as Texas-based Team Housing Solutions Inc.
Oregon Public Broadcasting was the first news outlet to name the contractor.
The vendor has held a number of federal defense contracts, mostly to build military housing.
Also, on Monday, A Lincoln County septic company got an inquiry from another federal contractor asking about costs to pump sewage from the airport area.

“We are still figuring out what we can legally do in terms about city land,” he said. “We are not obligated to lease city land to anyone who wants to lease. The city council has to determine whether it is in the public interest if somebody wants to lease land from us. That’s one thing that we know and we have no intention of leasing land for a facility that is going to be an ICE facility.”
Kaplan expects a battle with the federal government over the issue.
“When you get a showing like there was here tonight, someone in Washington is going to take notice,” he said. “We are small. We have a city attorney and she is talking with other attorneys looking at what our options are. We have some legalities to go to court and try to bring the helicopter back.”
Newport Fishermen’s Wives representative Taunette Dixon said
“We don’t have a lot of answers, just like everybody else.” While the Coast Guard has indicated that a helicopter would be stationed in Newport a couple of days each week, community members argue that such an arrangement is inadequate for responding to emergencies that can strike at any time.
Over the past decade, the relationship between Newport and Coast Guard stations has been marked by vigilance and open communication. The community fought to keep the rescue helicopter 11 years ago, launching campaigns and even canceling lawsuits in exchange for assurances that the aircraft would remain in Newport. New changes in policy and statements from officials, however, have left community members uncertain about these guarantees.
“There’s supposed to be a process they have to go through before they can determine that it’s safe enough to remove the helicopter,” said Dixon. This process, they explained, should involve assessing the risk to human life and hosting public forums, but many remain unsure whether the required steps are being followed. For Newport, the Coast Guard helicopter is nothing short of a lifeline. “We are a cold water fleet,” explained Dixon, noting the dangers of winter crab season and the need for immediate rescue during emergencies.
Local fleets, tourists, and even loggers depend on the fast response provided by the Coast Guard crew. “They become a part of our community… It’s so important in so many different ways.”

In late September, Jessica Adams, an instructor in Indiana University’s School of Social Work, showed a slide to her class that listed acts of “white supremacy” in the form of a pyramid. At the tip of the pyramid were “overt,” socially unacceptable acts, like “hate crimes” and “swastikas.” Below that were “covert,” socially acceptable acts, like the phrase “Make America Great Again” and the celebration of Columbus Day.
Soon after, Adams was removed from the class, “Diversity, Human Rights, and Social Justice,” while the university investigates whether she violated the state’s controversial intellectual-diversity law, known as SEA 202. The law, passed last year, called on the state’s public campuses to develop disciplinary procedures for faculty who fail to foster cultures of “free inquiry” and “intellectual diversity” within the classroom, among other things. It also forced colleges to develop systems through which students could submit complaints against instructors.
Sonia Lee, another professor associated with the AAUP who has been involved in Adams’s case, said she has no doubt that the graphic could have made someone in the classroom uncomfortable, but that doesn’t mean its use should be banned. Lee said many faculty and community members thought SEA 202 might end up being benign, but cases like this make her think otherwise. The student who might have been uncomfortable could have just raised their hand, she said, but the introduction of this bill gives them a nuclear option.
“I think the student could have had a genuine conversation, an intellectual debate about the validity of this pyramid,” Lee said. “But instead of actually talking and thinking about this on an intellectual level, the student knew about SEA 202 and they probably also knew about Senator Jim Banks being somebody that would probably listen to a student who did not like discussions about white supremacy. And so then they filed this complaint.”

Julie Brown, in her book “Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story,” writes that an anonymous woman, using the pseudonym “Kate Johnson,” filed a civil complaint in federal court in California in 2016, alleging she was raped by Trump and Epstein — when she was 13 — over a four-month period from June to September 1994.
“I loudly pleaded with Defendant Trump to stop,” she said in the lawsuit. “Trump responded to my pleas by violently striking me in the face with his open hand and screaming that he could do whatever he wanted.”
Johnson said she met Trump at one of Epstein’s “underage sex parties” at his New York mansion. She says she was forced to have sex with Trump several times, including once with another girl — 12 years old — whom she labeled “Marie Doe.”
Trump demanded oral sex and afterward “pushed both minors away while angrily berating them for the ‘poor’ quality of their sexual performance,” according to the lawsuit, filed in April 26, 2016, in the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California.
When Epstein learned Trump had taken Johnson’s virginity, he allegedly “attempted to strike her about the head with his closed fists,” furious that he had lost the opportunity.
Trump, she said, did not take part in Epstein’s orgies. He liked to watch while 13-year-old “Kate Johnson” gave him a hand job.
Johnson said Epstein and Trump threatened to harm her and her family if she spoke of their encounters.
The lawsuit was dropped, most probably by way of a lucrative settlement. She has since disappeared.

Federal immigration agents detained at least 24 people in the Salem area on Tuesday, according to a coalition of advocates for immigrant rights, marking the highest single-day total for detentions in years.
Oregon for All said that agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement smashed the windows of a van full of people on their way to work early Tuesday morning. In a separate event, witnesses reported, ICE rammed a car on Ward Drive in Salem near a 76 gas station.
ICE oversaw more than 14,000 placements in solitary confinement between 2018 and 2023. Many people who are detained in solitary confinement have preexisting mental health conditions and other vulnerabilities. The average duration of solitary confinement is approximately one month, and some immigrants spend over two years in solitary confinement.

The Guardian: The historic shifts in US immigration under Donald Trump have been dictated by a relentless voice over a telephone line: Stephen Miller, the president’s immigration czar, who in recent months has turned the state department’s visa and refugee operations into what some current and former diplomats have described as a personal fiefdom.
Each morning, usually at 10 am, a small circle of conservative diplomats allied with Miller, including those who have assumed control of the state department’s consular and refugee operations, dial in for what some have termed the “Stephen Miller call”, an interagency discussion of immigration measures led by Miller, the White House’s homeland security adviser.
In the calls, Miller is said to drill the diplomats on visa and immigration issues – pressing officials to hasten negotiations with third countries to accept deportees who can not or should not be sent back to their countries of origin, and lobbying for individual visa revocations for critics of Israel’s war in Gaza or of Charlie Kirk, the conservative pundit who was assassinated in September.
Miller’s influence, said one former senior official briefed on the calls, was part of a broader strategy under the Trump administration of “installing trusted people in the key positions, and turning [the state department] into an anti-immigration machine”.

Without U.S. money, weapons and political support, the Israeli military could not have committed such rapid, widespread destruction of human lives and infrastructure in Gaza, or escalated its warfare so easily to the regional level by bombing Syria, Lebanon, Qatar and Iran.
Without U.S. support, the Israeli government would have no combat aircraft to drop bombs and many fewer bombs. An increasing share of Israel’s arsenal would be down for maintenance without U.S. government or U.S. contractor mechanics and spare parts. In addition, Israel’s government could not have built a military of its current size and sophistication without U.S. financial backing.
At the same time, more and more Americans are beginning to oppose Israel, due to its endless atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank, and its deep manipulation of U.S. politics and foreign policy through various lobbying groups such as AIPAC.
As the Israeli paper Haaretz noted, “Pew surveys conducted between 2022 and 2025 show a rapid decline in support for Israel amid the war in Gaza – even among conservatives. Some 42 percent of Americans held a negative view of Israel in 2022; three years later, that number jumped to 53 percent. The collapse in support is not limited to Democrats: half of young Republicans (under age 50) now hold a negative view of Israel, up 15 percent since the war began.”
This is why – as Haaretz has now revealed-Israel is launching a million-dollar propaganda campaign targeting Americans in an attempt to shore up American support for Israel, and keep the weapons and cash flow to Israel going.

The Israeli government has signed contracts worth millions of dollars in recent months to rehabilitate Israel’s standing in American public opinion, both online and offline. Amid a sharp drop in support from the conservative right, Israel has hired firms to conduct not just ‘hasbara [public diplomacy] campaigns’ but also campaigns targeting millions of Christian churchgoers, bot networks to amplify pro-Israel messages online, and efforts to influence both search results and the responses given by popular AI services like ChatGPT.
The article went on to report, “documents filed over the past two months show that the Government of Israel – through the Foreign Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, and the Government Advertising Agency (LAPAM) – signed multiple contracts in the United States to promote Israel’s interests” adding that, “payments are routed through Havas Media Germany Gmb, a subsidiary of the international advertising and public relations giant Havas.”
The investigation uncovered that, “The largest of the new hasbara contracts was signed in August with a firm called Clock Tower X, owned by Brad Parscale, who played a lead role in Trump’s digital campaigns in 2016 and 2020”, a “6 million, four-month contract – signed between his firm and Havas Media on behalf of the Israeli government”.
The Israeli government directed Brad Parscale’s company to “produce ‘at least 100 core pieces of content per month’ – including videos, audio, podcasts, graphics and text – and ‘5,000 derivative versions’ monthly, aiming for 50 million impressions a month” adding that, “Eighty percent of the content will target young Americans on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube” and that, “Campaign messages will be distributed via Salem Media Network, a conservative Christian media group that owns more than 200 radio stations and websites”.
The Salem Media Network produces a long list of staunchly zionist conservative podcasts and radio shows, with personalities including Dinesh D’Souza, Josh Hammer, Lara Trump, Dennis Prager, Larry Elder, Jack Posobiec, and Hugh Hewitt.
Along with this campaign, Harretz revealed that Israel is running a similar propaganda campaign in an attempt to manufacture support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza and an American war with Iran amongst American evangelical Christians.
The report noted,
“Another Israeli campaign, commissioned for the Foreign Ministry, was proposed by Show Faith by Works, owned by Republican consultant Chad Schnitger, an evangelical operative connected to the Christian right. The campaign’s budget exceeds $3 million, one-tenth of which has already been paid via Havas, though a final contract has yet to be signed. Filings submitted in September describe a focus on ‘churches and Christian organizations in the western United States’ aimed at countering ‘declining support for Israel among evangelical Christians’ and ‘raising awareness of Palestinian ties to Hamas and support for terrorism.’”
Harretz noted,
“According to the documents, these goals will be pursued through ‘biblically based arguments highlighting the importance of Israel and the Jewish people to Christians,’ while spreading messages that ‘the Palestinians chose Hamas… they murder Christian aid workers… they celebrated the October 7 massacre and shelter terrorists… Palestinians and Iran share genocidal intentions toward Israel,’ and more” adding, “The filings for the proposed campaign explain that the messages will reach their audience through ‘the largest geofencing campaign in U.S. history’ – a pitch to map the physical perimeters of every major church and Christian college in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado during worship hours; identifying attendees using commercial data, tracking them, and continuing to target them with relevant ads. The estimated audience for the suggested project: eight million churchgoers and four million Christian students.”
Along with this, the investigation noted that Israel is using this propaganda campaign to attempt to get AI bots like ChatGPT to repeat pro Israel propaganda, writing, “A central element of Israel’s campaign is its attempt to influence the popular artificial intelligence chatbots that have exploded in recent years. One clause in the Clock Tower X contract reveals a ‘Search and Language Operation’ designed not only to promote the campaign on Google and other search engines but also to ‘generate framing outcomes in GPT conversations and AI-based dialogue systems.’”
Clock Tower will even deploy ‘websites and content to deliver GPT framing results on GPT conversations.’ In other words, Clock Tower will create new websites to influence how AI GPT models such as ChatGPT, which are trained on vast amounts of data from every corner of the internet, frame topics and respond to them — all on behalf of Israel.
As part of this work, the firm will also use search engine optimization software MarketBrew AI, a predictive AI platform that helps clients adapt to algorithms and promote their work on search engines like Google and Bing, to ‘improve the visibility and ranking of relevant narratives.’
The Haaretz investigation went on to note:
Another Israeli campaign disclosed in the Foreign Agents Registration Act filings was signed with SKDKnickerbocker, also via Havas for the Foreign Ministry, worth roughly 2.5 million shekels. Under the contract, the firm – actually considered close to the Democratic party – will develop a “bot-based program on various social media channels that `floods the zone` with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ pro-Israel message.”
The firm will also recruit up to five spokespersons to promote Israeli messages in international media and on social media, alongside bots which will operate on TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. A separate campaign run by Targeted Communications Global for the Tourism Ministry will use influencers and commercial content to promote travel to Israel, for $1.2 million.
The investigation added:
Another influence campaign was signed with Bridges Partners, a Washington-based consulting firm owned by Yair Levi and Uri Steinberg, the former Israeli tourism attaché in North America. The $1 million contract – signed via Havas on behalf of the Foreign Ministry and LAPAM – funds social-media influencers promoting Israel.
According to filings submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice in September, the campaign’s goal is to “promote cultural exchange between the United States and Israel through influencer-based content and related activities.” It includes recruiting and managing 14 to 18 influencers, each posting 25 to 30 times per month on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and X.

“Dark Enlightenment” thinker Curtis Yarvin, a neofascist close to both Michael Anton, Claremont senior fellow and a high-level Trump State Department appointee, and Vance (the MAGA heir apparent). Like Vance and Anton, Yarvin is heavily supported by Silicon Valley billionaire Thiel. Yarvin is also openly admired by Trump adviser and Silicon Valley venture capitalist Marc Andreessen for his antidemocratic views. Vance calls Yarvin, whom he has also referred to in friendly banter as a “fascist,” “my number one political influence.” In the MAGA world, Yarvin remains something of a shadowy figure, despite the fact that he has articulated the more reactionary strategies of the Trump regime. He is an ex-computer programmer and right-wing blogger, writing under the pseudonym Mencius Moldbug and advocate of a “Dark Enlightenment” or neoreactionary movement (“NRx”). Tucker Carlson devoted an entire show to interviewing Yarvin in 2021. He is best known for his anti-democracy arguments and insistence that the president can establish himself as a “national CEO” or even “dictator,” concentrating all power in the executive branch and superseding the legal system and the courts while shifting from an “oligarchical Congress” to a “monarchical president.” Americans, he insists, are “going to have to get over their dictator-phobia.”31
Yarvin has weaponized J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, seeing the leftist elite or professional-managerial class as an “elf aristocracy,” the “lower-middle class” as “hobbits,” and “dark elves” like himself as defenders of the hobbits. Like Steve Bannon, Trump’s former White House chief of staff, with whom he identifies, Yarvin sees himself as a proponent of MAGA; but, unlike Bannon, he deemphasizes the contradiction between the lower-middle class MAGA forces and the monopoly-capitalist billionaires at the top. Yarvin’s real allegiances are to the billionaires, rather than the lower-middle class. Indeed, he denies that he is a real fascist, despite the fact that he has applied the fascist label to himself, characterizing himself rather as a more straightforward supporter of dictatorship (or monarchy), since he has absolute contempt for the masses. Nevertheless, Yarvin sardonically states, “frankly, Hitler reads a lot like me”—if, he acknowledges, more talented and more evil.32
Widely seen as a largely underground figure who has helped game the system for Trump, Yarvin has provided the general plan for an imperial presidency. He argues that real power is held “oligarchically” (distinguished from the classical notion of oligarchy as based on wealth) by people who control the media and the universities, constituting the “Cathedral.” The Cathedral can only be toppled by a monarch or dictator, acting as a CEO. Once Trump was elected, Yarvin contended, he could purge the federal bureaucracy (what Yarvin calls “RAGE,” or retire all government employees) by claiming he had an electoral mandate allowing him to transgress the law and bring both the courts and Congress to heel. All court orders requiring the president to desist should be ignored. The mainstream media corporations and the universities should be closed down. In a podcast, Anton [Michael Anton is not Jewish; he is of Italian and Lebanese descent and has referred to himself as a Straussian who reveres his Jewish teacher, Harry Jaffa] said to Yarvin, “You’re essentially advocating for someone to—age-old move—gain power lawfully through an election, and then exercise it unlawfully.” Yarvin responded, “It wouldn’t be unlawful. You’d simply declare a state of emergency in your inaugural address.” The president could apply this to every state and take “over all law enforcement authorities.” Like Anton, Yarvin declared of the president, “you’re going to be Caesar.”33

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under President Donald Trump has dropped nearly two dozen consent orders that regulated banks and lenders accused of violations such as redlining and illegal overdraft fees.
The orders had targeted companies including Citibank, U.S. Bank and Toyota Motor Credit Corporation. Citibank’s order addressed alleged discrimination against Armenian-American customers, while U.S. Bank was cited for reportedly illegally freezing unemployment benefit prepaid cards. Toyota Motor Credit Corporation was accused of preventing borrowers from canceling expensive loan bundles.
The consent orders had required companies to compensate affected consumers and take steps to prevent future violations.
“This is completely unprecedented,” Shennan Kavanagh, director of litigation at the National Consumer Law Center, told NewsNation. She said the dismissals cover “a wide range of long-standing, systemic and extremely harmful practices that impacted hard-working families and consumers across the country.”
Advocates have warned that with the orders dropped, consumers will have weaker protections against corporate wrongdoing in the future, heightening the risk of a financial crisis.

As those standards loosened in subsequent years, he contends, rigor eroded, expectations slipped, and performance followed suit.
While Kahloon acknowledges psychologist Jonathan Haidt’s warnings about the impact of technology on learning, his analysis misses a deeper cultural reality: children’s minds are being reshaped not only by the devices in their pockets but by the entire digital ecosystem surrounding them, from the dinner table to the classroom. The crisis we’re facing is not merely one of literacy; it is one of cognition itself.
This is America’s literacy crisis laid bare. And it will not be solved by nostalgia for stricter report cards or by another billion dollars in Chromebooks. It will be solved when we recognize that the goal of education is not to compete with the attention economy but to transcend it, to build minds capable of depth in a shallow age. After an initial denial, a Turning Point USA chapter was granted registered student organization status during an emergency Associated Students of Fort Lewis College board meeting Friday night on campus.
Turning Point USA, a nonprofit organization that promotes conservative politics on high school and college campuses, was founded in 2012 by political activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed Sept. 10 on the Utah Valley University campus.
During a contentious four-hour ASFLC board meeting last week – where more than 30 students spoke in opposition – the board voted unanimously to deny Turning Point USA official status.
Friday’s emergency board meeting was held to revisit that decision after pushback from the group’s proposed leaders and outcry from some conservative students and community members.
A petition opposing the chapter gathered nearly 500 signatures. A second petition calling for the student board’s decision to be overturned collected more than 1,300.
Colorado Politics reported that Colorado House Republicans sent FLC President Heather Shotton a letter urging her to reconsider the student board’s decision.
Only about 30 people were allowed inside the chamber Friday because of fire safety regulations, leaving more than 60 students and community members waiting outside.

In 1786, the United States established its first Native American reservation and approached each tribe as an independent nation. This policy remained intact for more than one hundred years. Some argued against this policy, however. In this Review, we survey the breadth of cryosphere habitats and the composition, function and unique adaptations of the microbial communities that inhabit them. We outline how climate change can affect these communities and the ecosystem services they provide through short-term changes in substrate availability, enzyme activity and redox potentials as well as longer-term changes in community composition. We also explore the wide-ranging consequences these changes may have for local ecosystems, human communities and the global climate. Finally, we outline the knowledge gaps in cryosphere microbial ecology that contribute to uncertainties about the future of these ecosystems in a warming world.

Serwat said the recent claims circulating among some US right-wing circles that as many as 100,000 Christians had been killed in Nigeria since 2009 are not supported by available data.
Ebenezer Obadare, a senior fellow of Africa studies at the Washington, DC-based Council on Foreign Relations, agreed and said the Trump administration should work with Nigerian authorities to address the “common enemy”.
“This is precisely the moment when Nigeria needs assistance, especially military assistance,” Obadare told Al Jazeera. “The wrong thing to do is to invade Nigeria and override the authorities or the authority of the Nigerian government. Doing that will be counterproductive.”

I talked with Madu on his radio show, and below, the show. I do cover a lot of philosophical territory, and alas, this is about Madu and his love of his country and how quickly the country of his birth has spiraled into a country of selling people as slaves, kidnapping people for organs, murder, rape, theft.
So under the cover of counterterrorism, AFRICOM is beefing up Nigeria’s military to ensure the free flow of oil to the West, and using the country as a proxy against China’s influence on the continent. And that is the issue, too, that Madu is not happy with his country being exploited by anyone, including China. I explained to him that the USA has the military bases, the guns, and China has the contracts, the builders. In fact, Madu is spiritually exasperated at how his own countrymen turn against their own countrymen, and how there is a overlay of trauma and laziness and desperation and inflicted PTSD, including the post-colonial trauma referenced above.USA is like a storm of ticks, locusts, mosquitoes, viruses, as the syphilitic notions of Neocon and Neoliberal anti-diplomacy hit country after country like disease. There will never be enough money allocated in the budget, qualified teachers, or places in schools for the population we have; therefore, emerging technologies like Virtual Reality allow us to leapfrog these problems and offer the hope of more affordable, scalable and better quality education.
It is striking to read that UNICEF doesn’t believe there will ever be enough money to help all of the children in the world receive a traditional, classroom, education; therefore, it’s better to invest and scale Virtual Reality education — a rather pessimistic take from the “children’s fund” arm of the UN. UNICEF Innovation Fund, has virtual reality education programs in Chile, India, Nigeria, and Ghana. In Ghana, they noted there are “challenges to accessing the necessary teaching and learning resources for students to receive quality education; which is compounded by the lack of necessary and up-to-date education materials, huge class sizes and the lack of necessary infrastructural facilities.” (source)

A coalition of Christian advocacy groups has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, over Nigeria’s recent partnership with Israel on technology and security.
The organisations also dismissed the opposition from Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) to the partnership as anti-patriotic and dangerous.
The Israeli government has announced that it has opened 40 startup opportunities for Nigerian innovators to enhance their potential for productivity and investment, strengthening the capacity for skill development of Nigerian inventors.
Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sharren Haskel-Harpaz, who disclosed this, said that the 40 start-ups would be supported in the fourth round of Innovate8.
She said the Innov8 has, over the years, served as an incubator for brilliant Nigerians to exhibit their talents in startups in varied fields, using technology to provide solutions for common problems while boosting human capital development and strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
But MURIC, led by its Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, had earlier condemned the Nigeria-Israel collaboration, describing it as a romance with a terrorist state.
Akintola, in a statement, faulted the deal involving 40 Israeli startups under the Innovate8 initiative, while accusing Israel of genocide against Palestinians and warning Nigerian authorities against accepting what he called “blood money.”
Reacting, the coalition of Christian advocacy groups, comprising One Nation One Law, End Sharia Now, For Zion Sake, Christian Graduate Fellowship, My Muslim Friend, Love a Muslim Ministry, and Seasoned Apologists, on Sunday said the initiative with Israel represents a bold step towards tackling insecurity and fostering economic growth in Nigeria.
According to Akintola, the decision to report alleged religious persecution to the US instead of African institutions like the African Union or ECOWAS shows a deeper agenda of external domination. He said that Nigerian Muslims have also been victims of violence but their suffering is often ignored by both local and international media.
“Nigerian Muslims also suffer killings, often in larger numbers, but their plight goes unreported because global narratives are controlled by a Christo-Western media,” Akintola stated.
He noted that terrorism and banditry have affected both Christians and Muslims, depending on the geographical concentration of their populations.
“While about 200 churches were destroyed across the North, no fewer than 6,000 mosques were also demolished in the same region,” he said.
MURIC accused some sections of the media of bias, alleging that the killing of Christians receives amplified coverage while similar attacks on Muslims are downplayed.
