We can go ad nauseam on this fabric of humanity’s so-called advanced and evolved character so threadbare and so broken, so, here we go, man. Just a slice of today’s news. And, of course, I just did a shift as a DD/ID personal representative for 12 year- old-boy, and I did an hour interview with Max Wilbert, for my 2026 first show of the year Jan. 7, on Finding Fringe.
From the history of McCarthyism, blacklisting, union-busting, genocide, COINTELPRO, and the green scare to the tactics revealed by Edward Snowden and Wikileaks, we know that the United States and other allied governments have consistently used both overt and clandestine tactics to infiltrate, undermine, destabilize, and destroy revolutionary and social movements.
Nelson Comstock, the preeminent historian of the illegal COINTELPRO program, which the FBI ostensibly ran from 1956 to 1971, notes that while the government made mistakes during the program, its goals are clear:
“The COINTELPRO papers and other files reveal some stupid FBI blunders and misestimates,” Comstock writes. “The total picture, however, is of cool, calculating technicians, not crazed paranoids, going about the business of secretly combating people who are challenging the rule of the rich. That’s the FBI’s job.”
COINTELPRO is worth studying in detail because, despite claims to the contrary, the tactics employed by the FBI during that era never stopped — and understanding them helps us to protect our movements.
Gabriella Coleman describes some of the activities within COINTELPRO in her 2015 book Hacker, Hoaxer, Whistleblower, Spy: The Many Faces of Anonymous in a chapter worth quoting at length:
“[Leaked COINTELPRO] documents provide clear evidence of the elaborate steps the FBI took to monitor [Martin Luther] King in particular. The illegal surveillance lasted for years, starting in the late ’50s when the program was first authorized by Hoover. When King delivered his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech at the March on Washington on August 28, 1963, William Cornelius Sullivan, associate director of the FBI, wrote to Hoover, ‘We must mark [King] now, if we have not done so before, as the most dangerous Negro of the future in this Nation from the standpoint of Communism, the Negro and national security.’
King was considered ‘an unprincipled man’ who had a ‘weakness in his character. Sullivan wrote, ‘We will at the proper time when it can be done without embarrassment to the Bureau, expose King as an immoral opportunist who is not a sincere person but is exploiting the racial situation for personal gain.’ Soon after King was named ‘Man of the Year’ by Time magazine, the FBI was illegally authorized to bug his hotel room; ‘trespass is involved,’ they wrote. The resulting transcripts were presented to Hoover, who responded, ‘They will destroy the burrhead.’

MW– Do you think that Hugo Chavez was murdered and, if so, who do you think might have been involved?
Eva Golinger– I believe there is a very strong possibility that President Chavez was assassinated. There were notorious and documented assassination attempts against him throughout his presidency. Most notable was the April 11, 2002 coup d’etat, during which he was kidnapped and set to be assassinated had it not been for the unprecedented uprising of the Venezuelan people and loyal military forces that rescued him and returned him to power within 48 hours. I was able to find irrefutable evidence using the US Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), that the CIA and other US agencies were behind that coup and supported, financially, militarily and politically, those involved. Later on, there were other attempts against Chavez and his government, such as in 2004 when dozens of Colombian paramilitary forces were captured on a farm outside of Caracas that was owned by an anti-Chavez activist, Robert Alonso, just days before they were going to attack the presidential palace and kill Chavez.
There was another, lesser-known plot against Chavez discovered in New York City during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly in September 2006. According to information provided by his security services, during standard security reconnaissance of an event where Chavez would address the US public at a local, renowned university, high levels of radiation were detected in the chair where he would have sat. The radiation was discovered by a Geiger detector, which is a handheld radiation detection device the presidential security used to ensure the President wasn’t in danger of exposure to harmful rays. In this case, the chair was removed and subsequent tests showed it was emanating unusual amounts of radiation that could have resulted in significant harm to Chavez had it gone undiscovered. According to accounts by the presidential security at the event, an individual from the US who had been involved in the logistical support for the event and had provided the chair was shown to be acting with US intelligent agents.
There were numerous other attempts on his life that were thwarted by the Venezuelan intelligence agencies and particularly the counterintelligence unit of the Presidential Guard that was charged with discovering and impeding such threats. One other well known attempt was in July 2010 when Francisco Chavez Abarca (no relation), a criminal working with Cuban-born terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, responsible for bombing a Cuban airliner in 1976 and killing all 73 passengers on board, was detained entering Venezuela and later confessed he had been sent to assassinate Chavez. Just five months earlier, in February 2010, when President Chavez was at an event near the Colombian border, his security forces discovered a sniper set up just over a quarter of a mile away from his location, who was subsequently neutralized.
While these accounts may sound like fiction, they are amply documented and very real. Hugo Chavez defied the most powerful interests, and he refused to bow down. As head of state of the nation without the largest oil reserves on the planet, and as someone who openly and directly challenged US and Western domination, Chavez was considered an enemy of Washington and its allies.
So, who could have been involved in Chavez’s assassination, if he was assassinated? Certainly, it’s no far stretch to imagine the US government involved in a political assassination of an enemy it clearly – and openly – wanted out of the picture. In 2006, the US government formed a special Mission Manager for Venezuela and Cuba under the Directorate of National Intelligence. This elite intelligence unit was charged with expanding covert operations against Chavez and led clandestine missions out of an intelligence fusion center (CIA-DEA-DIA) in Colombia. Some of the pieces that have been coming together include the discovery of several close aides to Chavez who had private, unobstructed access to him over prolonged periods, who fled the country after his death and are collaborating with the US government. If he were assassinated by some kind of exposure to high levels of radiation, or otherwise inoculated or infected by a cancer-causing virus, it would have been done by someone with close access to him, whom he trusted.

The Pentagon has ordered thousands of National Guard troops to complete civil unrest training ahead of new deployments, signaling that President Donald Trump’s use of military forces in U.S. cities is likely to become routine. Internal Defense Department documents reviewed by The Washington Post outline a 200-person “quick reaction force” trained in riot control to be ready by January 1, complementing a larger 23,500-member National Guard Reaction Force expected to be fully operational by April.

The drones are made by a company called Skydio which in the last few years has gone from relative obscurity to quietly become a multi-billion dollar company and the largest drone manufacturer in the US.
The extent of Skydio drone usage across the US, and the extent to which their usage has grown in just a few years, is extraordinary. The company has contracts with more than 800 law enforcement and security agencies across the country, up from 320 in March last year, and their drones are being launched hundreds of times a day to monitor people in towns and cities across the country.
Skydio has extensive links with Israel. In the first weeks of the genocide the California-based company sent more than one hundred drones to the IDF with promises of more to come. How many more were delivered since that admission is unknown. Skydio has an office in Israel and partners with DefenceSync, a local military drone contractor operating as the middle man between drone manufacturers and the IDF. Skydio has also raised hundreds of millions of dollars from Israeli-American venture capitalists and from venture capital funds with extensive investments in Israel, including from Marc Andreessen’s firm Andreessen Horowitz, or a16z.

New evidence suggests senior legal officers were involved in both the leak of violent footage from Israel’s Sde Teiman detention facility and its alleged cover-up, which were reportedly coordinated in advance through a WhatsApp group that included senior officers from the IDF’s legal corps.

The US experimentation with bio-weapons goes back to the distribution of cholera-infected blankets to American Indian tribes in the 1860s. In 1900, US Army doctors in the Philippines infected five prisoners with a variety of plague and 29 prisoners with Beriberi. At least four of the subjects died. In 1915, a doctor working with government grants exposed 12 prisoners in Mississippi to pellagra, an incapacitating disease that attacks the central nervous system.
After World War I, the United States went on a chemical weapons binge, producing millions of barrels of mustard gas and Lewisite. Thousands of US troops were exposed to these chemical agents in order to “test the efficacy of gas masks and protective clothing”. The Veterans Administration refused to honor disability claims from victims of such experiments. The Army also deployed mustard gas against anti-US protesters in Puerto Rico and the Philippines in the 1920s and 1930s.
In 1931, Dr. Cornelius Rhoads, then under contract with the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Investigations, initiated his horrific Puerto Rico Cancer Experiments, infecting dozens of unwitting subjects with cancer cells. At least thirteen of his victims died as a result. Rhoads went on to head of the US Army Biological Weapons division and to serve on the Atomic Energy Commission, where he oversaw radiation experiments on thousands of US citizens. In memos to the Department of Defense, Rhoads expressed his opinion thatPuerto Rican dissidents could be “eradicated” with the judicious use of germ bombs.
In 1942, US Army and Navy doctors infected 400 prisoners in Chicago with malaria in experiments designed to get “a profile of the disease and develop a treatment for it.” Most of the inmates were black and none was informed of the risks of the experiment. Nazi doctors on trial at Nuremberg cited the Chicago malaria experiments as part of their defense.
At the close of World War II, the US Army put on its payroll, Dr. Shiro Ishii, the head of the Imperial Army of Japan’s bio-warfare unit. Dr. Ishii had deployed a wide range of biological and chemical agents against Chinese and Allied troops. He also operated a large research center in Manchuria, where he conducted bio-weapons experiments on Chinese, Russian and American prisoners of war. Ishii infected prisoners with tetanus; gave them typhoid-laced tomatoes; developed plague-infected fleas; infected women with syphilis; performed dissections on live prisoners; and exploded germ bombs over dozens of men tied to stakes. In a deal hatched by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, Ishii turned over more than 10,000 pages of his “research findings”to the US Army, avoided prosecution for war crimes and was invited to lecture at Ft. Detrick, the US Army bio-weapons center in Frederick, Maryland.
In 1950 the US Navy sprayed large quantities of serratia marcescens, a bacteriological agent, over San Francisco, promoting an outbreak of pneumonia-like illnesses and causing the death of at least one man, Ed Nevins.
A year later, Chinese Premier Chou En-lai charged that the US military and the CIA had used bio-agents against North Korea and China. Chou produced statements from 25 US prisoners of war backing him his claims that the US had dropped anthrax contaminated feathers, mosquitoes and fleas carrying Yellow Fever and propaganda leaflets spiked with cholera over Manchuria and North Korea.

The UN human rights chief said Friday that US military strikes against boats in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean allegedly carrying illegal drugs from South America are “unacceptable” and must stop.

The administration is also planning to designate ANTIFA as a foreign terrorist organization, a much more serious legal designation that experts predict will have severe negative consequences for free speech, dissent, and protest. As the Civil Liberties Defense Center notes:
“The Trump regime will likely use [these designations] to increase surveillance and criminalization of its adversaries (increasingly similar to Putin’s Russia, where political opponents are murdered in prisons). They may attempt to use it to target, threaten, and punish people who openly protest the regime’s policies and actions. When the FBI has carried out previous domestic terrorism investigations against neo-Nazi groups like the Base and Atomwaffen Division, US prosecutors used criminal enterprise laws like RICO. We’ve seen an uptick in the State’s use of RICO to target political expression — e.g. the Atlanta Cop City cases, where a judge recently tossed out the abusive and illegal use of RICO against activists. The regime may use this designation to place the military in US cities to enforce the will of the dictator, and justify it as ‘fighting antifa protests.’”
They conclude, “It’s critically important for Americans to continue to fight against fascism and to defend our imperfect democracy.”

The Multnomah County Board had to make a difficult choice on Thursday, deciding how to compensate for the loss of roughly $28 million in state funding for Homeless Services.
Members of the board said that the loss of state funding is due to the loss of federal funding, i.e., the state lost federal funding, which in turn cut the amount of money that could be given to the county.
This funding constraint comes as the county struggles to keep up with the number of people facing homelessness.
“We know right now that we’re having about 1,400 new people a month being identified as experiencing homelessness. And right now our system is able to help 1,100 exit, which means every month 300 new individuals are experiencing homelessness,” said Commissioner Meghan Moyer.

Seven hundred OHSU health care workers, represented by the Oregon Nurses Association, voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to authorize a strike as contract talks stall.
It comes after strikes at both Kaiser Permanente and Providence this year.
Workers at OHSU say their current workload is unsustainable and they want better pay. OHSU says it offered salary increases and limits on maximum work hours in its latest offer.
“All designed to provide equitable, market-driven support for this vital team,” it said in part in a statement. “OHSU remains committed to addressing APU’s priorities and will continue to negotiate in good faith to reach a fair agreement.”
“People are really worried about the idea of striking, because people are in such financially precarious positions right now,” said Angelo Bologna, a physical therapist at OHSU. “People are worried that the longer the contract drags on, the more they are losing money from their contract. People are worried that they’re one medical bill away from not being able to pay for their car, not being able to get to work, so all of that also represents like how the contract that we have from OHSU is not serving people enough for the level of inflation, the level of costs that everyone has faced nationally and here locally.”
