Humans and the environment are being silently poisoned by thousands of untested and unmonitored chemicals
At the beginning of the book of Devarim, Moses reviews the history of the Israelites’ experience in the wilderness, starting with the appointment of leaders throughout the people, heads of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. He continues:
I charged your judges at that time: “Hear the disputes among your people and judge fairly, between one person and another, whether the case is between two Israelites or between an Israelite and a foreigner residing among you. Do not show partiality in judgment: listen equally to the small and the great. Do not be intimidated by any man, for judgment belongs to God. Any case that is too difficult for you, bring to it me and I will hear it.
Deut. 1:16-17
Thus at the outset of the book in which he summarised the entire history of Israel and its destiny as a holy people, he already gave priority to the administration of justice: something he would memorably summarise in a later chapter (Deut. 16:20) in the words, “Justice, justice, shall you pursue.” The words for justice, tzedek and mishpat, are repeated, recurring themes of the book. The root tz-d-k appears eighteen times in Devarim; the root sh-f-t, forty-eight times.
Justice has seemed, throughout the generations, to lie at the beating heart of Jewish faith. Albert Einstein memorably spoke of Judaism’s “pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, an almost fanatical love of justice, and the desire for personal independence – these are the features of the Jewish tradition which make me thank my lucky stars that I belong to it.”

The global élite may be able to survive by eating organic food, but not by the pollution of water, soil and air by genotoxic and teratogenic herbicides, insecticides and other industrial chemicals. Governments and Regulators only measure a small fraction of them. The chemical industry has created a toxic environment from which none can escape. The devastating effects of these silent killers in our environment do not distinguish between farmers or city dwellers, the wealthy or the poor, between media moguls, editors or their reporters, Monsanto or Syngenta Executives, Prime Ministers or Presidents. Many people in the UK are no longer reaching the biblical age of three-score-years-and ten because they are dying of cancers.

The Letter from America is a unique open letter to the citizens, politicians, and regulators of the UK and the rest of the EU about the hazards of genetically modified crops.
This is relevant to all of us in the UK and the rest of Europe because our politicians and regulators are currently deciding whether or not to plant GMOs and, under pressure from biotech lobbyists and trade negotiations like the TAFTA/TTIP, whether to relax regulations around the import and sale of GMOs.
Europe has held out against GMOs for a very long time. If it gives in now, efforts in the US to successfully campaign against GMOs, to get GM foods labelled, and to try to get them out of the farming and food system are likely to collapse.
This is now an urgent international issue and we all need to work together – and quickly – to protect our global food system and ourselves.
The Letter from America, signed by groups and individuals representing nearly 57 million US citizens, gives us a glimpse into out for future should we choose to embrace GM crops.
The powerfully written and fully referenced letter details the problems and challenges that American farmers, consumers and others have faced over the nearly two decades since the first commercialised genetically engineered crops were planted. These include:
• Lower yields than equivalent non-GM crops
• Higher chemical inputs and seed prices that are 3-6 times higher than conventional seed, leading to lower profits for farmers
• The risk of cross pollination and contamination of non-GM fields and the loss of export and organic markets due to high levels of contamination
• Increased pesticide use; research suggests that farmers who planted Roundup Ready crops use 24% more herbicide than non-GMO farmers planting the same crops
• Superweeds and superbugs that are resistant to either Roundup or the toxin produced by Bt plants
• Destruction of the natural environment including threats to beneficial insects such as bees and butterflies and harm to important soil organisms
• Studies showing numerous threats to health from eating GM foods and their associated pesticides.
• Lack of scientific consensus on the safety of GMOs
• Increasing corporate control over the food supply
Post publication we will continue to invite endorsements from groups but also individual citizens in the US post publication.
In the UK it will be part of a larger campaign to reignite grassroots interest and involvement in the issue of GMOs here and UK visitors to the website will be encouraged to send the letter to their elected representatives with their own concerns as well as help spread the word more widely throughout the UK.

After a video surfaced last week of Rep. How Jewish American pedophiles hide from justice in Israel
One of the girls Karow allegedly abused in Israel is “Amoona.” She asked us not to use her real name, to protect her family.
“I was 5, 4 or 5 years old. My mother was on bedrest. My father is a rabbi so he wasn’t home. (Karow) used to come to our house. We used to play games and then it became sexual.”
The alleged abuse took place over the course of more than two years. A July 2019, Israeli indictment against him details allegations of severe sexual abuse, including rape and sodomy. She says he would threaten and manipulate her to keep her quiet.
“‘I’m going to give you a cookie because you do it so nicely.’ It’s all about the cookie it’s all about lying and it’s all about being so evil to a little child,” Amoona recalls him telling her. “He also threatened and to kill my parents. He would choke me. He would hold me.”
Inaction, even protection?
Amoona is angry that Karow was allowed to enter Israel in the first place, but JCW’s chief operating officer Shana Aaronson says the failure begins in the United States. She says there are elements of the Jewish community in the U.S. that are willing to help pedophiles escape.
“Oftentimes there’s some sort of community incentive, either somebody owes them a favor or someone in the community, let’s say an institution, has covered up for them in the past and they know that if this goes to court there’s a lot of civil liability coming down the line,” she says.

In 1973, when Barry Singer was a fifteen-year-old student at New York’s Yeshiva University High School for Boys, the vice principal, Rabbi George Finkelstein, stopped him in a stairwell. Claiming he wanted to check his tzitzit—the strings attached to Singer’s prayer shawl—Finkelstein, Singer says, pushed the boy over the third-floor banister, in full view of his classmates, and reached down his pants. “If he’s not wearing tzitzit,” Finkelstein told the surrounding children, “he’s going over the stairs!”
“He played it as a joke, but I was completely at his mercy,” Singer recalled. For the rest of his time at Yeshiva, Singer would often wear his tzitzit on the outside of his shirt—though this was regarded as rebellious—for fear that Finkelstein might find an excuse to assault him again.

Jay Goldberg, who attended Yeshiva from 1980 to 1984, says that he endured years of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse from Finkelstein. The rabbi, he said, forced him and others to wrestle with him while he became sexually aroused, and demanded that they hit him repeatedly. Neither Goldberg nor Singer ever reported Finkelstein’s behavior to the school; when one student, identified in a future lawsuit as John Doe 14, finally did, in 1986, Finkelstein allegedly pulled him out of class in a rage, shoved him against a wall, punched him, and threatened him with expulsion. The school took no action during those years other than removing Finkelstein’s office door. In 1991, he was promoted to principal.
During those same decades, another Yeshiva rabbi, Macy Gordon, was also reportedly sexually abusing students. One accuser, identified in the lawsuit as John Doe 2, claims that Gordon sodomized him in his dorm room in 1980. The rabbi “said he was going to punish me for missing class,” the accuser told me. “He laid me across his lap and took my toothbrush and plowed it in and out of my rectum, and it burned. I remember it burned for a very long time after. I can’t go back in time and tell you what I was thinking, but I can only tell you that it lasts forever.” He told me that Gordon also sprayed Chloraseptic on his genitals, remarking that he showed “signs,” by which Gordon meant signs of puberty. Later that year, John Doe 2 tried to kill himself.
In total, Finkelstein and Gordon are suspected of hundreds of acts of sexual abuse at Yeshiva, though they never faced any legal repercussions. Finkelstein was discreetly forced out of Yeshiva in 1995 but quickly found work as the dean of a Jewish day school in Florida and later as the director general of the Great Synagogue in Jerusalem, although allegations of abuse followed him to each of these new positions.
Gordon, for his part, enjoyed a thirty-plus-year career at Yeshiva. He also eventually moved to Jerusalem, where, according to the New York Times, he served alongside Finkelstein on the advisory board of the National Council of Young Israel, an organization promoting Orthodox Judaism to liberal American Jews. (The current president of the organization claims that neither rabbi had been involved with the group “to my knowledge.”) In 2002, Dr. Jonathan Zizmor—a celebrity dermatologist whose advertisements were a staple of New York City subway cars for decades—set up a $250,000 scholarship fund in Gordon’s name for future generations of Yeshiva students. (Zizmor claims he knew nothing of the abuse at the time, and when allegations surfaced, he maintained that Gordon was “a great teacher, a great man.”)

These schools include Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and pluralistic options. The number of Jewish day schools has increased significantly in recent years, with a 34% increase over the past 20 years according to The AVI CHAI Foundation.
