Many of the soldiers in Gaza – a significant proportion of them religious – will now have reason to believe that the crimes they and their army have been committing over the past three months are blessed, that their mission is divinely ordained. The extremity of Israel’s war on Gaza has become so unbearable that there are at last cracks in its political support. And the massive effort that Joe Biden has undertaken to back Israel no matter what it does is raising questions even in mainstream politics.
There is, to begin with, the crisis over Netanyahu’s declaration that there must never be a Palestinian state. This totally contradicts U.S. policy— lip service to a Palestinian state. And it thereby incurred rebukes by Biden’s official spokesmen: the only way to get peace in the region is a two-state solution.
“Democrats ‘appalled’ by Netanyahu’s bashing of two-state solution,” Politico reported. “Growing number of Senate Democrats question Biden’s Israel strategy” – the Washington Post. Five Democratic senators said they would join 13 who had endorsed a measure to condition supplemental aid to Israel– more than a third of the Democratic caucus.
Look, if there isn’t a concerted effort from sea to oily sea to just go on the attack against Israel, Jews who Support Murder, Goyim who Lust after the Four Horsemen a’comin, and if there aren’t platforms like Mondoweiss to have railers — not these measured, controlled (controlling) voices just cateloguing the minute by minute murder, that is, Mass Murder, AKA Killing Fields in Real and Telegram-TikTok Time, then NOTHING will change.

Anti-Israel Protest Again Sparks Controversy at LGBTQ Conference
JTA obtained video of the event, at which speakers led chants of ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ and ‘From Palestine to Mexico, all the walls have got to go’
An anti-Israel protest has again led to controversy at Creating Change, an LGBTQ conference that was the site of a raucous anti-Israel protest in 2016.
At the opening of this year’s conference, organized by the National LGBTQ Task Force, a group of activists holding Palestinian flags took the stage unannounced and led a 13-minute protest for Palestinian liberation and against Zionism. The speakers were not interrupted or asked to leave by the event organizers.
JTA obtained video of the event, at which speakers led chants of
“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”
and
“From Palestine to Mexico, all the walls have got to go.”
The conference took place from Jan. 23 to 27 in Detroit.
The first speaker of the protest, who did not give their name, said the conference did not include pro-Palestinian programming because it could upset donors. The speaker invoked Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the Michigan Democrat who is the first Palestinian-American woman elected to Congress.
“In a state that elected the first Palestinian woman to the U.S. Congress, there is still a ban on Palestine at Creating Change, because the Task Force is afraid that people are going to come here to seek their full liberation, and donors might get mad,” the speaker said. “Right now, our content is being censored, our liberation is being silenced and our voices are being shut down because the Task Force is too cowardly to have a conversation on one of the leading social justice issues of our time: Palestinian freedom.”
The second speaker of the protest, Mina Aria, called on the Task Force to fight “pinkwashing, Zionism, Islamophobia and colonial violence.” Pinkwashing is a term that connotes what critics see as Israel’s covering up of human rights abuses by trumpeting its LGBTQ-friendly policies.

So why does John Malkovich want to shoot Robert Fisk?
Robert Fisk, a reporter for the Independent, has for long been a dissident voice, opposing Israel’s vicious occupation of Palestinians and writing about the suffering inflicted on these people. As a result, he is now in a free-fire zone, simply for trying to point out the other side of the story. The death threats Mr. Fisk receives have steadily increased and the obscenities and vile language used has never been so grotesque. What is alarming is that the majority of the remarks come from American Jewish well-respected personalities. Recently in an address given to the Cambridge Union, an accomplished and learned Hollywood actor, John Malkovich, stated that he would like to shoot Mr. Fisk.
Last Christmas, Mr. Fisk received a card that said:
“Lord Haw Haw of the Middle East and a leading anti Semite & proto-fascist Islamophile propagandist. Here’s hoping 2002 finds you deep in Gehenna (Hell), Osama Bin Laden on your right, Mullah Omar on your left.”
These letters continue to come in droves by such academics as Professor Judea Pearl of UCLA, the same people who under any other circumstance would be staunch supporters of the First Amendment of the American Constitution. It appears the exercise of freedom of speech or of the press applies insofar as it is not directed against Israel and its bigoted behavior against Palestinians. Anti Semitism began as a struggle against racism, sadly it has become a way of covering Israel’s racist treatment of 3.9 million Palestinians. People such as Phil Donahue, who hold true to the essence of journalism by being fair and presenting unbiased coverage, come under heavy attack for supposedly being anti Israel or “anti Semite”.

Several leading actors, musicians and writers, including Cynthia Nixon, Susan Sarandon and Wallace Shawn, have expressed their support for South Africa’s application to the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of genocide.
The 29 celebrities gave their backing in a series of videos that was started Friday by the Palestine Festival of Literature in which they read out sections of the charges in a show of support for the case.
The first video, which was published on Friday, included participants from nine countries with various positions in the entertainment industry.

One of the actors, Adam Bakri, is an Arab Israeli who completed a bachelor’s degree at Tel Aviv University before moving to New York. His acting credits include the Oscar-nominated film “Omar.”

Martin; Tobias Menzies and Khalid Abdalla who both appeared in Netflix’s “The Crown”; and Jewish actor Wallace Shawn from “The Princess Bride,” among others. The descent was gradual — a slide into the tawdry, the trivial and the inane, into the charade on cable news channels such as Fox and MSNBC in which hosts hold up corporate political puppets to laud or ridicule, and treat celebrity foibles as legitimate news. But if I had to pick a date when commercial television decided amassing corporate money and providing entertainment were its central mission, when it consciously chose to become a carnival act, it would probably be Feb. 25, 2003, when MSNBC took Phil Donahue off the air because of his opposition to the calls for war in Iraq.’

‘Donahue and Bill Moyers, the last honest men on national television, were the only two major TV news personalities who presented the viewpoints of those of us who challenged the rush to war in Iraq. General Electric and Microsoft — MSNBC’s founders and defense contractors that went on to make tremendous profits from the war — were not about to tolerate a dissenting voice.
Donahue was fired, and at PBS Moyers was subjected to tremendous pressure. An internal MSNBC memo leaked to the press stated that Donahue was hurting the image of the network. He would be a “difficult public face for NBC in a time of war,” the memo read. Donahue never returned to the airwaves.’
The celebrity trolls who currently reign on commercial television, who bill themselves as liberal or conservative, read from the same corporate script. They spin the same court gossip. They ignore what the corporate state wants ignored. They champion what the corporate state wants championed. They do not challenge or acknowledge the structures of corporate power. Their role is to funnel viewer energy back into our dead political system — to make us believe that Democrats or Republicans are not corporate pawns.
The cable shows, whose hyperbolic hosts work to make us afraid of self-identified liberals or self-identified conservatives, are part of a rigged political system, one in which it is impossible to vote against the interests of Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, General Electric or ExxonMobil. These corporations, in return for the fear-based propaganda, pay the lavish salaries of celebrity news people, usually in the millions of dollars. They make their shows profitable. And when there is war these news personalities assume their “patriotic” roles as cheerleaders, as Chris Matthews — who makes an estimated $5 million a year — did, along with the other MSNBC and Fox hosts.
It does not matter that these celebrities and their guests, usually retired generals or government officials, got the war terribly wrong. Just as it does not matter that Francis Fukuyama and Thomas Friedman were wrong on the wonders of unfettered corporate capitalism and globalization. What mattered then and what matters now is likability — known in television and advertising as the Q score — not honesty and truth. Television news celebrities are in the business of sales, not journalism. They peddle the ideology of the corporate state. And too many of us are buying.’ (Chris Hedges, 2013)
Donahue spent four years after leaving MSNBC making the movie documentary “Body of War” with fellow director/producer Ellen Spiro, about the paralyzed Iraq War veteran Tomas Young. The film, which Donahue funded himself, began when he accompanied Nader to visit Young in the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
“Here is this kid lying there whacked on morphine,” Donahue said. “His mother, as we are standing by the bed looking down, explained his injuries. ‘He is a T-4. The bullet came through the collarbone and exited between the shoulder blades. He is paralyzed from the nipples down.’ He was emaciated. His cheekbones were sticking out. He was as white as the sheets he was lying on. He was 24 years old. … I thought, ‘People should see this. This is awful.’ ”

Donahue noted that only a very small percentage of Americans have a close relative who fought in Iraq or Afghanistan and an even smaller number make the personal sacrifice of a Tomas Young. “Nobody sees the pain,” he said. “The war is sanitized.”
“I said, ‘Tomas, I want to make a movie that shows the pain, I want to make a movie that shows up close what war really means, but I can’t do it without your permission,’ ” Donahue remembered. “Tomas said, ‘I do too.’ ”
But once again Donahue ran into the corporate monolith: Commercial distributors proved reluctant to pick up the film. Donahue was told that the film, although it had received great critical acclaim, was too depressing and not uplifting. Distributors asked him who would go to see a film about someone in a wheelchair. Donahue managed to get openings in Chicago, Seattle, Palm Springs, New York, Washington and Boston, but the runs were painfully brief.
“I didn’t have the money to run full-page ads,” he said. “Hollywood often spends more on promotion than it does on the movie. And so we died. What happens now is that peace groups are showing it. We opened the Veterans for Peace convention in Miami. Failure is not unfamiliar to me. And yet, I am stunned at how many Americans stand mute.”

What the fuck is a Christian Jew, a Christian Zionist?
Jerry Falwell is right: Evangelical preachers are constantly accusing the Jews of harboring the Antichrist.
I asked Falwell if he knew the actual identity of the Antichrist. No, he said. “People might say, it’s a certain person, it’s Henry Kissinger, like that, but the Lord does not let us know that.”
So there’s a chance, then, that I’m the Antichrist?
Falwell chuckled a condescending chuckle. “It’s almost amusing, that question. Of course not. I know that you’re not.”
Why?
“The Antichrist will be a world leader, he’ll have supernatural powers,” he said.
He got me there—I have no supernatural powers. I can’t even drive a stick shift.
I pressed him further on the identity of the Antichrist, but Falwell wouldn’t play. “We’ll know the Antichrist when he arrives,” he said.
Most evangelical leaders, in fact, refuse to publicly guess the name of the Antichrist—though, as Falwell suggests, Kissinger is a perennial favorite, at least among those evangelicals who believe the Antichrist will be Jewish. For most of their history, Christian leaders had been content to ascribe the characteristics of the Antichrist to the Jewish people as a whole.
“Ever since the 2nd century CE, the very beginning of the Antichrist legend, Christians have associated Jews with everything unholy,” Andrew Gow, who teaches Christian history at the University of Alberta, told me.
In the minds of early Christian leaders, the church was the new Israel; God’s covenant with the Jews was obsolete. Therefore, the Jews who remained on Earth were there to serve devilish purposes, Gow explained.
There are plenty of evangelical thinkers who differ with Falwell, who believe, like LaHaye, that the Antichrist will be a gentile who rises out of Europe.
“The Antichrist is supposed to make a peace treaty with Israel,” Ed Hindson, the author of Is the Antichrist Alive and Well?, explained. “Why would a Jew make a peace treaty with a Jewish state?”
Hindson suggested that Satan will make the Antichrist the leader of the European Union—the revived Roman Empire, eternal enemy of Israel—though Hindson disputed one popular idea advocated by Monte Judah, an Oklahoma-based prophecy-teacher, that Prince Charles is the Antichrist.
“There’s no way Prince Charles is the Antichrist,” Hindson said. “Satan can do better than that.”
In his book, Hindson runs through a list of potential candidates. Bill Clinton is there, of course, as well as Saddam Hussein and Ronald Wilson Reagan (six letters in each of his three names. Get it?).
Of course, none of these men are gay.
“It says in the Bible that the Antichrist will have ‘no regard for women,’ and so many evangelicals interpret that to mean that he will be a homosexual,” Hindson said, though he added that he’s not entirely convinced.
This idea—the Antichrist as gay—strikes a chord with many evangelicals, just as the idea that the Antichrist is Jewish strikes a chord. (Slate)

Starting in the 1970s, the religious right emerged as an important political constituency, and with it came a new type of revivalism that focused on restoring the morals of the nation—not the individual soul. Hummel explains that this revivalist nationalism became embedded in the contemporary politics of Christian America and, by 1980, Ronald Reagan drew upon the movement with his presidential campaign slogan, “Let’s make America great again.” By using revivalist language about American decline, particularly moral and religious deterioration, Reagan implied that his then-potential presidency would renew the country spiritually.
Hummel recalls Reagan’s slogan and the words of religious figures like Billy Graham and Jerry Falwell when he hears Trump’s rhetoric. As Hummel writes in a 2016 Religions academic journal article,
“We can observe a gradual secularization of revivalist nationalism, one that could even accommodate a non-evangelical figure like Donald Trump.” He concludes, “Trump is the most recent in a long line of deft leaders—media savvy, charismatic, at home in front of a crowded stadium—who have continued to rely on revivalist forms to shape and share their message.”
Benjamin Netanyahu stated in a recent speech that the “prophecy of Isaiah ” would be fulfilled. This is a reference to a Christian evangelical belief in the second coming of the Messiah, which opposes the mainstream Christian belief that the Messiah was Jesus himself. So why do Christian evangelicals — who constitute a significant voter bloc in the US Republican Party — support Israel?

Twenty years ago, a movement known as Christian Zionism was on the furthest fringes in the land of Israel.
Back then, mainstream theologians — Christian and Jewish alike — dismissed Christian Zionism as a dangerous interpretation of biblical prophecies; the ideology was flawed at best, at its worst, inherently anti-Semitic.
Today, Christian Zionism has gone mainstream, with explosive growth in both fundraising and political power. Its journey is evident in today’s headlines in Israel-Palestine. When the United States announced a relocation of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, many observers believed it was the Trump administration’s way of answering directly not only to the Israeli right but also to the American Christian evangelical base that supports Trump. Christian Zionists view the embassy move as a milestone on a prophetic timeline that aligns with an apocalyptic interpretation of scripture.
