Did you now the original Black Beauty was written as a paen to horses, as in treating them well. So many horses murdered by over working and such. The Wild Beauty Foundation was founded by filmmakers Ashley Avis and Edward Winters on the heels of the feature film Black Beauty.  Inspired by the timeless messages of author Anna Sewell, who originally wrote the 19th century novel to give a voice to the horses of her time— we at WBF hope to create a lasting legacy for the horses of our time, today.

Fucking dirty gold seekers:

The Klondike Gold Rush is known in part for the hardships that men and women faced as they travelled the trails to Dawson City in the Yukon. One of the lesser-known aspects of this event is the tragedy that befell thousands of horses that were killed on the Chilkoot and White Pass Trails.

“I feel sure the fate of horses on those trails gave pain to the Klondikers the rest of their lives.” — Robert B. Medill

“There was at the time no trail, and there has been since no trail, but something that they have called a trail, marked by the dead bodies of three thousand horses, and by the shattered health and the shattered hopes and fortunes of scores – nay, hundreds – of men — Tappan Adney

But this quick Subterrenean Stack was initiated by those Incels out on the Substack “community” (it does take a million village idiots to raise the idiocy of the idiots running around their rooms with capes, dirty undies, and their three screens on their weapons — Incel Hard Drives): Here, over at Caitlin Johnstone, piggy-backing — Incel Attatching — to one of my comments:

Crying about past lost wars is what women do. Conquest and colonialism have shaped the world for the better, deal with it. Do you really think the natives would be better off if they were still in the stone age? How about if the Mongols or Arabs had conquered the Americas instead of the Europeans? I can GUARANTEE that they would have been treated MUCH WORSE by either one. But I’m sure you’re totally unaware of the Arab slave trade which DWARFED the Transatlantic slave trade by MILLIONS of slaves and CENTURIES. Hell, the Muslim slave trade is still going on in Africa AND the Middle-East RIGHT NOW! Why don’t you at least go virtue signal about something REAL happening NOW? The Israel war you’re currently crying about is a LIE.

And, everything Zuckerberg and Google and Facebook, gets exported to even more addicted fucks in Asia:

East Asian countries are experiencing an increasing rate of misogynistic attacks that incorporate elements of the incel ideology, embraced by men who blame women for their lack of sexual activity and low social status.[2] Men in countries such as South Korea and Japan are using new strategies to target women, such as “semen terrorism” or ejaculating on their personal belongings.[3] Legal systems in these countries have often failed to recognize these attacks as sex crimes, categorizing them as “property damage.”[4] The lack of stricter judicial sentences for perpetrators and the fear of victims becoming marginalized is likely resulting in the underreporting of misogynistic crimes. The anti-feminist backlash that East Asia is experiencing makes it likely that countries in this region are vulnerable to becoming territory for the incel movement, which continues to expand globally.[5] However, implementing stricter judicial sentences for misogynistic crimes, monitoring and tracking incel activity in the region, and researching why misogyny and the incel movement are flourishing in East Asia would likely reduce the risk of incels operating in this region.

This dude responding to a comment I made on Johnstone’s Substack (not to him directly, but they are trolls, skimming the internet all the fucking time) calls himself John Jamestowne.

Ahh, if only now!

The Indian attack of March 22, 1622, constituted a watershed in history of the Jamestown settlement. Earlier, beginning in 1618, a faction in the company led by the treasurer Sir Edwin Sandys had steered the company in the direction of integration of Indians into English settlements. Families received houses in the settlements and funds were established for a college for Indian youth to Christianize and civilize them. Most assumed that Openchancanough and the Powhatan nation shared the ideal of an integrated society. Not only had the Indians not agreed to cultural suicide, but as George Thorpe, a supporter of the new policy of integration, observed, most of the English settlers still harbored their contempt for Indians.

“There is scarce any man among us,” he reported,” that doth soe much as afforde them a good thought in his hart and most men with their mouthes give them nothinge but maledictions and bitter execrations.”

The silence of the Indians in the face of daily insults of occupation and verbal abuse the English mistook for subservience. By 1622 it was apparent to the Indians that the colonists intended to expand their holdings in Virginia. This physical expansion threatened the Indian way of life. Of even greater concern, perhaps, were the renewed colonial efforts to convert and educate the “savages.”

Opechancanough’s response to the threat of cultural deconstruction was to plan and stage a massive attack on the English settlement as a demonstration of Indian power and in an attempt to drive off the English for good.

According to English accounts, Opechancanough planned to attack the Jamestown fort as well as the outlying settlements. But a young Indian boy who had been Christianized by the settlers forewarned the inhabitants. The news did not spread fast enough, however, to save the English living in the settlements.

On the day prior to the attack, the Indians came bringing gifts of meats and fruits and shared them with the settlers, thereby disguising their intentions. The following morning they circulated freely and socialized with the settlers before suddenly seizing their own work tools to attack them (See Robert Beverley’s Description of the 1622 Attack). The Indians killed families in the plantation houses and then moved on to kill servants and workers in the fields. The Powhatans killed 347 settlers in all – men, women, and children. Not even George Thorpe, a prominent colonist well known for his friendly stance towards the Indians, was spared. The Powhatans harsh treatment of the bodies of their victims was symbolic of their contempt for their opponents. The Indians also burned most of the outlying plantations, destroying the livestock and crops.

The colonists in Jamestown were in an uproar, stunned by the massacre. The settlers immediately withdrew to the fort and to other easily defensible locations. In addition to the loss of life, the colonists also lost valuable crops and supplies necessary to survive the winter. Ironically, during the winter of 1622-23 the colonists were forced to trade with the Indians for corn and supplies and even with these provisions many went hungry. The mortality rate during the winter of 1622-23 climbed due to malnutrition and disease – over four hundred settlers died.

A busy street with children and horse drawn carriages

In the dark night of 23 November, I couldn’t shake off the fear that the promised truce wouldn’t bring the relief we desperately needed.

Each minute felt endless as I stared at the clock, worrying if I would make it through until Friday morning.

I was staring at the clock as if my life depends on it. It was one of the longest nights I have ever lived.

When 24 November arrived, it brought a moment of relief. After 47 days of nonstop bombings and terrifying experiences, I cautiously stepped outside.

I was able to walk the streets with no fear that I would die at any second. My solitary confinement was finally over.

I found a city I could hardly recognize, full of destruction and the sounds of people in pain.

The city was filled with unfamiliar faces and had become so crowded. Everywhere I went, I found a queue: one for gas, one for water, one for flour.

People would stand in line for days on end.

Every block of residential homes had a destroyed house.

Every single street apparently had some sort of “target” that just had to be bombed.

The air was filled with smoke from cars running on cooking oil. The air was filled with the smell of people trying to cook on open fires to feed their families.

It was hard to take a breath of fresh air. My mom and son suffer from respiratory illnesses, which is exacerbated by polluted air.

People are living in schools, shops, colleges, parks, and even on the streets. The city is so crowded that we step on one another.

Thirty or 40 people are crammed into one shop, their living conditions unbearable. Almost all markets are now closed.

There is no cheese, bread, eggs, coffee, salt, or anything really.

Haunted

My beautiful, peaceful town has become haunted with suffering and misery. They destroyed everything beautiful and turned it into a graveyard.

My daughter had an intestinal infection, and when I went to the clinic, I was astonished by the number of people suffering from intestinal infections. The doctor prescribed her the medicine and told us to look for it in our local pharmacy because the clinic was out of medicine.

I had to visit several pharmacies until I found it.

On 24 November, I passed by groups of people gathering around solar panels to charge their batteries and their phones. I had hoped to feel lighter after a quick walk, but it made me feel heavier.

I thought to myself that I would not be able to go out again until this is over.

That night was the first time I slept without being scared for my life and my family’s safety, a relief we had missed during the 47 days of constant bombing of people in their homes. Finally, I felt safe, even if just for a night.

The difference between that peaceful sleep and the awful days before made me realize how important feeling secure is.

My walk that day also brought home the gravity of the aftermath. The city pulsed with desperation and I couldn’t help but feel the weight of our collective struggle.

Yet, in the midst of this haunting scene, the essence of my once-peaceful town persisted, even if buried beneath the debris of adversity. The once vibrant streets now bear witness to the indomitable spirit of a community navigating the ruins, yearning for the restoration of a life once known.

Better than most shit in Holly-Dirt:

Terrence Malick, the universally acclaimed American filmmaker responsible for the key 1970s features Badlands and Days of Heaven, returns for a rare directorial outing with the sweeping period piece The New World — an epic dramatization of Pocahontas’ relationships with John Smith and John Rolfe.

Malick’s story opens at the dawn of the 17th century, just prior to the colonization of the United States — when the North American population consisted of an interconnected series of native tribes.

In April 1607, three maritime vessels approach the unfamiliar continent, with 103 sailors on board. As members of the Virginia Company, these adventurers carry a royal charter to mount a society on the edge of the new continent. John Smith (Colin Farrell) sits chained below one of the decks. He is a 27-year-old loose cannon, who, for his persistently rebellious acts, has been sentenced to death by hanging as soon as the ships dock.

Nevertheless, Captain Christopher Newport (Christopher Plummer) acknowledges Smith’s ability to aid with exploration and consents to pardon him as a result. Upon landing, Smith seeks assistance from local Native American tribes with colonization, but runs into the unexpected — he falls desperately in love with Pocahontas, or “Playful One” (Q’orianka Kilcher), the daughter of the omnipotent Chief Powhatan (August Schellenberg).

Needless to say, this does not sit well with Powhatan or the rest of the tribe. Moreover, the oft-bellicose Smith enters a head-to-head conflict with his fellow Britons when he finds his tempestuousness calmed by the tranquility of the new landscape, as the anger and violence of his shipmates concurrently build in the face of the Native Americans.

Later, Smith temporarily returns to England; believing that Smith is dead, Pocahontas accepts the hand of plantation owner John Rolfe in marriage (with her father’s blessing) and follows Rolfe back to the old country. When Smith returns to America, his intended is nowhere to be seen, and the entire community teeters on the brink of a British-Indian war. Malick shot the production on location in Virginia; it co-stars Jonathan Pryce, John Savage, and David Thewlis.

Is Netflix's The Recruit Sponsored by the CIA? | Spy Culture

Brandon’s work on the film helped The Recruit market itself as a realistic look at the CIA as well as endow the final product with a richer specificity in regards to dialogue, sets, and character interaction. However, Brandon’s work on the film served the agency’s interests as well. One of the film’s more important scenes during the training sequences features Pacino explaining to his students that while the CIA’s failures will almost always be publicized, no one will know of their successes—a scene which again helped to curtail criticisms of the agency which suggested it had twiddled its thumbs in the years leading up to the September 11th attacks. This sentiment was also echoed in an interview given by Birnbaum, who was asked what he hoped audience members would learn from his movie. He responded that the CIA operatives in this country and around the world are here to protect usand it’s a very difficult job. Usually the American public only hears about their mistakes. We don’t get to hear about the great things they do every day. It’s only when they stumble do we hear about it. But probably even right now, as you and I are standing here about to enjoy this movie, someone is out their doing something good that we’ll never know about.

Comments such as this were, undoubtedly, boosts to the agency’s public image, andeven though the film does depict one of its own officers betraying the agency, the film can still be seen as a positive portrayal of the CIA since its new hires are presented as some of the sharpest minds in the country and the agency itself is presented as both competent and rigorous. Even in regards to Burke’s betrayal, Steve Sailer astutely writes that the take-home message of The Recruit is that ‘while the CIA does have problems with officers committing treason, it’s mostly because we don’t pay them enough’ —an angle, he remarks, Brandon would have little problem getting behind. Perhaps the biggest boost for the agency, however, rests in the special features section of the film’s DVD release.

The first half of this 16-minute special, entitled ‘Spy School: Inside the CIA Training Program,’ features Brandon describing the recruitment and training processes undergone at the CIA, as well as the IQ tests, personality assessments, and background checks the agency conducts for potential employees. He also clarifies that while the film suggests that recruits can be subjected to torture or physical abuse at The Farm, such practices are not utilized during the CIA’s real training process. During the second-half of the film, the focus changes and becomes more of a recruitment film and marketing tool for the agency. For instance, Brandon remarks that 9/11 ‘clearly’ demonstrated that the agency is ‘more crucial than ever.’ Apple is also featured in this section of the film and argues that working for the CIA is the most thankless job in all of law enforcement and one of the most complicated. ‘We don’t realize the risks these people take to help our government figure out what do we have to do, is this a real threat or not? I can tell you right now that there have been many averted terrorists attacks that we’ll never know about’ [because the CIA was successful]. The film then cuts to a scene from The Recruit, where Al Pacino tells his trainees that CIA officers do not work for glory or money. Rather, we are here because

‘we believe. We believe in good and evil and we choose good. We are here because we believe in right and wrong and we choose right our cause is just.’

The film then ends with Brandon asking why anyone would want to become a spy given the constant moving and the time it requires officers to spend away from family and loved ones. He concludes by arguing that the answer lies in the fact that the ‘grandeur, the glory, the sense of purpose, the sense of accomplishment the incredible sense of privilege and pride’ involved in working for the CIA ‘so outweighs everything else.’ What the CIA ultimately gained from its relationship with the creators of The Recruit, then, was a favorable impression of theCIA projected through the film’s narrative, the ability to deflect criticism that the CIA was incompetent and asleep at the wheel, and the additional boon of a free recruitment advertisement disguised as a special feature on the DVD release.

“The horses died like mosquitoes in the first frost and from Skagway to Bennet they rotted in heaps. They died at the rocks, they were poisoned at the summit, and they starved at the lakes; they fell off the trail, what there was of it, and they went through it; in the river they drowned under their loads or smashed to pieces against the boulders; they snapped their legs in the crevices and broke their backs falling backwards with their packs; in the sloughs they sank from fright or smothered in the slime; and they were disemboweled in the bogs where the corduroy logs turned end up in the mud; men shot them, worked them to death and when they were gone, went back to the beach and bought more. Some did not bother to shoot them, stripping the saddles off and the shoes and leaving them where they fell. Their hearts turned to stone – those which did not break – and they became beasts, the men on the Dead Horse Trail.” — Jack London

Ancient DNA Discovery Reveals Woolly Mammoths, Wild Horses Survived Thousands of Years Longer Than Believed

Wild horses survived the mass extinction event that knocked out most of Eurasia’s megafauna – including the mammoth – by moving into forests and turning black, new research shows.

“”A study led by Edson Sandoval-Castellanos of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and published in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution combined geographical modelling and genetic analysis to answer the question of how horses managed to survive the Pleistocene-Holocene mass extinction 11,700 years ago.

The event saw the end of 70% of genera comprising animals weighing over 44 kilograms, but wild horses such as the tarpan (Equus ferus ferus) weathered the storm – and remained in Europe until 1909.

The stubborn survival of the wild horses is especially intriguing because they have a relatively restricted diet, yet fared better than many generalist feeders, such as the mammoth. Sandoval-Castellanos and his colleagues set out to test the two hypotheses most commonly advanced to explain the phenomenon.

The period is marked ecologically by the development and spread of forests, and the consequent decrease in grassland habitats. Horses are well adapted to open land, so the first hypothesis suggests that sufficient grassland persisted to allow a horse population to remain viable.

The second hypothesis suggests that the horses gradually adapted to the spread of woodland and forest environments and learned to live among the trees.

To test the theories Sandoval-Castellanos and his team drilled through available data to model the presence of plant species – some found in grassland environments and others found in forests – and align them with dated horse remains.

The researchers found that as the Pleistocene era gradually morphed into the Holocene, the co-occurrence of horses and forest plants increased.

The shift from open ground to tree cover was accompanied by a change to coat colour – a trait that earlier research has shown to be genetically determined. By analysing the genomes of 27 wild horses that lived at various times during the mass extinction period, the researchers found that in the oldest, grassland-dwelling examples the allele associated with coat colour produced a brown or bay pelt.

In more recent, forest-dwelling animals, however, the allele coded for a black coat.””
